I was just curious if anyone has had experience with the three setups. Now there is of course price that separates the three but does one out perform another?

Flex-a-lite's move a decent amount of air, very loud though, I tested both push and pull variations.

Nowhere near the flow of a properly setup and shrouded clutch fan setup though.

I'm back to the clutch fan setup currently. No plans to go back.

^^^He's right, the Flex-a-Lite is loud, but it runs at a higher rpm. The Adrenaline Motor Sports is much quieter because of the S Blade Configuration. I have not tried out the Mishimoto set up. I am happy with the Adrenaline set up. Since my car is daily driven and I am more for comfort, I am satisfied. I do have a PWM controller for the fans....fan speed is regulated by how hot the car gets. It rarely goes on to 100% fan speed, unless I have my AC on.

The flex-a-lites I used were also both of the S blade type. I also was using the PWM controller for both setups as well. Sounds to me that the Adrenalin Motor Sports fans may be a better more carefully chosen setup for our cars.

The Flex-a-lites with PWM (Pulse width Modulated) controller are far from being a cheap solution though. And in the end also were not at all on the same level as far as cooling result (to the clutch fan setup that is, I have no personal experience with the Adrenalin Motor Sports fans, but have heard good things).

I also believe that over years of use a clutch fan setup will be a more reliable less prone to fail arrangement than the Flex-a-lites.

If I could have went with the mechanical fan, I would have. However, a 1j and a PWR radiator necessitates that I go electric. I was a bit short on cash at the time and also unaware of the Adrenaline option, so I picked up the Mishimoto shroud/fans from HPF. Can't say I've been at all disappointed, they're loud when on, but you can barely hear them over the exhaust anyway, so no concerns there. Been daily driving my car in all sorts of conditions for the last year now. :)

my friend had mishimotos and kept overheating.. afterward, he went back to stock clutch fan and was fine.

he had FALs before the Mishimotos however, and apparently they were fantastic.

Well I think the only reason that I am considering the electric fan set up is because of it cleaning things up a bit. Plus I need a new fan shroud and fan clutch. However, reliability is much more important to me so I guess I have some thinking to do.

Hey Poo, do us PWR guys have any option of going clutch fan with the JZ, or are we stuck with e-fans? Personally, I just turn the thing on once it reaches operating temp and forget it, but I've always been one to keep an eye on temps, so...

Supposedly there was a shorter fan clutch that would work, but I don't think you can use the stock shroud. There's always the hydro fan setup as well.

If you're going e-fans, a good factory setup is best (as they don't want to have to replace them under warranty) and factory setups also run in failsafe mode meaning the temp gauge keeps it off, so if the gauge fails or the wire is disconnected, the fans stay on. There was a big thread on this a few years ago IIRC. I would NOT use a switch since let's say you get hurt and someone has to drive you to the hospital in your car and they don't know to flip the switch...

My fans will come on eventually with the thermoswitch, but it makes me uncomfortable how hot the car gets before it allows the fans to come on with that switch... However, I took a 135lb cast iron sink to the head a few months back. Finished my shift, and drove myself to the hospital 5 hours later. I think I'd have to be dead to need someone to drive me to the hospital. :p

Just kidding on that one, but other than the Taurus, are there any other good OEM e-fan setups that you're aware of? I guess a bit of searching for this thread you speak of would be in order for an answer... For me the Mishimoto is working alright, but I'm not 100% convinced of the quality of them.
