If your going to have rules they should not be in opinion when to enforce them. Don't get me wrong I don't like some of the said things, but being public I don't read them again...thats my way of not supporting it.
Just because a mod understands the humor doesn't make it right according to the rules....right? It seems odd that if a mod considers it funny it's OK but if it's not their cup of Joe BAN.:1zhelp: If something is posted in Off topic lets say; that usually means open fire. If you want an off topic area then let that area rage and become an inferno...that's kinda the reason for it to keep some of the crap out of the "enthusiast's" area.

I don't want to be taken wrong here...I like a good question or comment but if you want to do something like build a 2x4 wing on your car(KeithH) I like to see everyone let you know that will probably look odd/stupid. Again I like to read arguing back and forth, it's keeps me signing in every half hour while at work lol

What words are not appropriate now...is there a context that can and cannot be used for certain questions, just want to know so I don't get banned.
Sorry for the long post, wife went to bed and I have nothing better to do but drink and read SM

there are rules everywhere. america, aultralis, the uk, germany, japan. what makes this place any diffrent.

Wearing a "Fuck you" t-shirt to disneyland is a little different than telling someone thier car is a flaming dung heap after they ask your opinion of it.

I have to wear a shirt and shoes when I go into McDonalds, I can deal with that. If I had to tell them to have a nice day after they screwed up my order again, I'd probably stop going there.

BTW, where are these forum rules everyone is talking about posted? All I can find are the off topic rules.

http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10233

Also, this forum is not the USA. You do not have freedom of speech on this website, sorry. This is a site that is run by Supra enthusiasts for other Supra enthusiasts to discuss topics, and learn about their cars. If someone asks what you think of their car, and you think it looks like a pile of crap, say it in a way that doesn't make the person feel like a complete idiot.

I've told people tons of times I didn't care for the way their cars look, but not once do I think I offended them or insulted them.

In conclusion: asking for people's opinion is a loaded question, do so with discretion. Giving your opinion can be a loaded statement, do so with regard for other people's hard work and dedication, and do so in a way that doesn't purposely attempt to make them feel beneath you, or any less of a person because they have different tastes than you.

I don't think it's too much to ask.

Give the man a cookie! This is a free enterprise in competition with other very similar websites. Useless restrictions lead users to favor other websites.

Why? Just curious...

I do. A personal attack is something that can be clearly defined and moderated without predjudice. Offensive or insulting remarks are Pandora's box. I'm offended that you felt you needed to point out to me that Supramania is not the USA. I realize it isn't a government institution, do you think I'm really that stupid? You should be banned according to you? Absurd, pointless, bad for buisness....

Good. If you have no tendency to be an *%$&()@(#!, you won't be affected.

If someone gets so bent out of shape over a rule that creates consequences for being an @*$^*&#@, I don't see where losing them to another website would be a bad thing.

So, I guess we will be seeing you then. Have fun at those other forums!

If you take a look at my posts on here, I'm the furthest thing from an antagonist. I even resisted jumping on that Noxide kid that caused this horrid overreaction. I'm just trying to keep this forum from bieng a ban happy Nazi censorship "club" where you have to be in with the mods or admins to keep from getting squashed. We already have Supraforums for that, at least they have some traffic...

?? If you can point out the malicious attack in my above post, I'll gladly never return.

[edit]
...and a few extra ???? marks at how anything in that post or any other post I've made on this forum could be considered a flame. I'm not even referencing anyone.

[and edit again]
Well, now that I think about it, I suppose if you consider yourself an @$#*!*@, then I see where you might take it to heart, rather than recognizing the "you" in my first sentence as a generalization.

Your malicious attack? There was an insinuation in your post that I have a tendency to be an *%$&()@(#!.

Sorry, my reply was a post you could laugh at or take offense to. Just like the way you addressed me. I guess we should both be banned now, eh?

This thread was a response. A needed one, it was not just people posting an occasional flame here and there, and you will not get banned for stating your opinion. Turning this place into Supraforums is the last thing I want to happen, and as long as I'm an admin, it won't happen. I want people to feel welcome, and to express their opinions, and I do want people to feel that they can say what they want without being banned, etc. That being said, this is a community, not just some forum. I'd like to see people not only speak their mind, but respect one another.

You're one of the last people I'd want to go to another website chevyeater, in fact, I think you raise some very important points in this thread. Without opposition from people like you, I could very well see this site turning into a censored website. We don't want that, and it's important that members stand up for what they feel the website should be like.

That being said, there are exceptions. Sometimes things get out of hand, even if they're not completely stated in the rules, sometimes you can just tell, things have gone too far, and site staff will step in, that's what this thread was, a way to stop the wailing on noxide.

If this was Supraforums, this thread would have been locked and probably deleted without warning a long time ago. Their entire motto is that people must be silenced!

Actually, I think you are overreacting. There are people here that should have been banned for being nothing but trouble makers, and yet they are still here. The admins here are very hesitant about banning people. Suggesting that they are ban happy is not a valid argument at all!

As far as the favoritism you mentioned:
…where you have to be in with the mods or admins to keep from getting squashed…
I think that this is quite the exact opposite actually!
The mods/admin are favoring what is right vs. who has been here the longest or the bigger contributor....or who is regarded, or regards, them self as the golden goose.
Not having standard rules leads to more inequality. Favoritism and the inequalities that come from it is corruption.

This is a step away from favoritism not a step towards it.
Making rules in advance for all to see and to be judged equally is better than having unwritten rules, where bending of the rules for VIP members may possibly occur. I see this as a step towards equality, not towards favoritism.

I have been a mod on this site before (I am not now) and I am a super mod on another supra forum. For those that need maintenance and like to speak their mind in a trouble making way, guess who has to clean up their mess...yep, the mods and admins. Good mods and admins can watch what they say and not cause problems for no reasons, it is sad that they may need to dedicate an great deal of time to fixing situations because members are very careless and here mostly to cause problems, or do so once in a while without a care in the world, and then someone else has to clean their mess.
How about act like adults so that the more responsible (as mods should be) don't have to follow you and baby sit? Intelligent grown ups amongst themselves can surely discuss topics without trash talking. It has been time for people to just grow up, but since some have yet to get a sense of good judgment, I guess we need a blanket policy thanks to some careless players.

Rules are made because of problems. Laws are made because of problems.

Think about those that do nothing but contribute. I can name many. Let's think of Grim (although there are many others that are also big contributors).
He comes in and helps on the forum (some admins do not post or help the members with tech threads--he does).
Improves or at least customizes the forum software to better serve us.
Cleans up so many messes (to the best of his ability).
Never starts problems.
Even helps members, whom he does not know, in person at their garage.

Some really don't deserve to be on the same forum as some other on here!
Some work hard to build this community.
Others come for their cheap laughs and don't know or don't care how that affects our environment here, and so they, in effect, weaken it.

For the followers on any forum, that are so eager to sell someone out to impress their friends and bond that way: How about picking a better leaders, instead of the bandwagon drivers? (Just a thought—worked out great for me!)

EDIT: didn't know you posted, Jeff.

Jeff, I think I have a better idea of where you are coming from now, thank you for sharing that. I'm sending you a PM with some further thoughts as I've just read Noxide's "welcome" thread with a fresh perspective.

Tony, rules can be written with one thing in mind by one person and then used for an entirely different purpose by a different person. I think that if we (ok, the mods and admins, not me or you) are going to make a hard and fast rule on this, it had better be a good one.

Yes, if you say I should hit the trail, I must have done something heinous (per the new rule we're talking about, and that I support).

chevyeater said:

Bah, you doubly misread it. Since I quoted your post, I can certainly see where you'd read in that I was directing it at you -BUT- I don't see how you take it as me calling you an ass. Let's go back and say I were directing it at you and what we have is: ......if chevyeater is not routinely an ass, then chevyeater has nothing to worry about.

chevyeater said:

Ah, but considering this thread is about moderating those who can't keep from being outrageous $#*@)*#s, and my comment was about anyone we might lose to another forum because they (whomever they may be) are unable to accept being moderated for acting that way......and your response to me was "So, I guess we will be seeing you then. Have fun at those other forums!". You'll have to forgive me for not laughing.

My take on that exchange:
ME- "Good, let the $#^#@'s go then"
Chevy- "Don't let the door hit you on the way out."
ME- "ME!? What the....?"

chevyeater said:

i had figured i'd let this thread boil for a few days, and not post any more of my opinions at all. i hoped that a new perspective would catch on, and perhaps help to better the community, and i seems to have worked. i dont want the wrong idea being put forth by myself, such as a censored site, or that you'll be banned for posting your opinion, because it wont, and you wont.

really, i was just looking for a way to try to make the community a bit more tight. granted, many people will always have SOMEONE who gets on their nerves, but that's just humanity as a whole. i'm sure everyone's got someone that just bothers them.

i'm proud of this community. you all kick ass. :) i dont want to see any of you go, but i also dont want anyone to have the "i'm the best" attitude. in a community, we all give, and we all take. some more than others. when i was a n00b i took so much information it's riduculous, but i'm trying every day to give it back, to add onto it, to make it even more precise then when i got it. that's what SM has always been about to me, personally. it's been a growth of knowledge, of which i can help to better other's knowledge.

thank you all, very much!

:) -shaeff
