Hey guys,

So I have 2 quick questions...keep in mind I have an 89 stock

First,

I don't know if anyone done this before but I was wondering, is it possible to take the leather wrap on my oem supra shift knob, since its ripping off? I want to take it off but I'm afraid that if I take it off the knob wont fit back in again.

Second,

I'm looking to get stance gr+ coilovers for my car, now I'm thinking of dropping it 1" all around, but I know some ppl drop it more to make theirs look flush and all, I want mine to look flush but not the the point where its slam on the ground.. how safe should I drop my car from stock? What's your drop? does it give you any problem?

Thanks guys for your input!! Much appreciated!! :)

p.s. any pics would be nice :icon_bigg

First, you can unwrap the shifter without any concerns, it's just rubber underneath, the leather is held on with what looks like contact cement, it cleans up easily.

Second, there's a lot of cars out there with more than 1" drop. Admittedly it does depend on your wheels and tires to a certain extent... mine is so low it ate the fender liners! And the wiring harness behind them, that was a bitch to figure out... :( I need to lift it back up a bit and put new liners in there. I haven't measured, but mine is a lot more than 1", that's for sure. My 7m car is down 1.5 inches without any issues.

Id drop like 3-4in front and 1.5-2in back. With stance You can adjust so top of the tire looks good. Just be sure of where you are driving and go sideways on steep driveways and watch for cars.

Depending on the condition of the shift knob id keep it. Looks like crap with it off. But itd be much better to get a trd shift knob. There very nice.

So you guys would say it's safe for me to remove the leather wrap, clean it, and I shouldnt have any problem putting it back in right? :)

Putting what back in? The leather cover? Or putting the shift knob back on the gearshift? The leather won't be going back in, regardless. The knob itself will screw back down to the stick just fine.

There's really no point for me to put the leather wrap back on..really? It's already ripped.. Thanks for clarifying that GrimJack :)

How about the second question guys? Anyone else want to give their inputs/advice in? I'm open to hear how low of a drop you guys are on :D

I HAVE seen people carefully remove the clear part on the top of the shifter, remove any stitches and rewrap it in leather. It's not easy though. Might see if an upholstery shop can do it for you.

On the second question, I'd say mine is a bit more than an inch lower in front, but I really don't remember. The fun part about coilovers is that they're adjustable :D

I just tore the leather off with my shift knob. There is still a bit of an edge around the clear plastic top piece. I installed it on my minitruck though. I actually have a Razo shift knob now.
