First time back at the dragstrip.

It was a dissapointing night. I was hoping to at least break into the 13's. The only thing I manage to break was the clutch. I burnt it out. It wasn't holding for shit! It slipped in every gear. I made two passes tonight. Here's the breakdown:

Pass 1: Clutch slipped from the get go. Peddled it all the way down.

Pass 2: Same clutch not holding issue. I noticed the left wheel didn't want to spin anymore. Note the burn out. I must have messed up something in the diff. I gave up after second gear and coasted the rest of the way.

P&P head.
Cartech intercooler.
2.5" hardpipes.
Greddy Type S BOV
Garrett T4 60trim .70A/R divided turbine.
Ebay manifold.
Generic Wastegate with dumptube. 10psi spring.
3" turbo back exhaust with no muffler at the moment.
Lexus AFM.
MSD 8.5mm spark plug wires.
Autolite #3922 plugs.
550cc injectors.
Walbro fuel pump.
TRD pressure plate.
OEM Toyota clutch disc, pilot & throw-out bearings.
Nitto Extreme NT555R drag radials.

You have the same modes as I but I'm going with 60-1 ct26

On stock turbo (good clutch) 13psi I ran 13.3 @104.

Seems like you should have a 12 sec pass in here. Must have been pretty bad with that clutch.

You were on 10lbs?

Drop that 60ft 1.5-1.6 and you'll be in the 12's for sure. Turn the boost up a little and you'll be in the 11's

Yes I was running 10psi last night. Once I get a better clutch set that's what I'll be shooting for.

That first pass hurt me. Sounds scary when the clutch is slipping like that. You should try the six puck from driftmotion. It should be perfect for your setup. Good luck.

I'll check out that clutch set, but it'll have to be down the road before I get something like that. I'm gonna put a stocker back in and hold out on the dragstrip until I can get a performance clutch set later.

I have a stock clutch set also. Just curious did the power ever hold for you on this setup?

On the street it never slipped on me. Of course this was before I put drag radials on. I would just get wheelspin. My previous tires were so old they couldn't hold the power. I put the Nitto's on and now the weak link was the clutch.
If I had better tires from the start I probably would have seen that this clutch wasn't strong enough.

Hey suprapowaz! why dont you try a stock PP ( or your trd if its not that work out) and throw a 6 puck disk in there. This set up i have used a couple of times with 430 rwtq and has never slipped once. It should cost about the same as the stock clutch kit if not less...Good luck and Nice looking supra by the way.

Sounds like a friend's 7m... awesomely powerful, but if the tires hold, the clutch cooks itself. If the clutch holds, no way in hell do the tires stand a chance. I'm running DM's cheaper 6 puck (Action?) clutch and pressure plate set. I'm sure it'll hold just fine for you into the mid-400's anyway. If I remember correctly, it's good for over 500 ft-lbs.

Anyway, get that clutch setup right and get back with us after you're nipping at the 12's.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll look into those options. A friend of mine that has a small mechanic shop is going to let me use his lift and trans jack. Last time I pulled the trans at home the damn thing rolled off the jack and landed on my arm. It had me pinned for a bit. I don't wanna have that happen again.

Your flywheel might be trash after all that slipping. If it starts to slip its always best to back off and feather it.

Power goals.... I'd like to be in the mid 400's for now. The way it sits now I'll be lucky to hit 300rwhp/rwtq. I think I'm gonna pull the trans down this weekend and see what kind of damage is going on.

This is what happened to my clutch. I glazed the shit out of it.
Now on to the carnage pics:

Flywheel if glazed over and had cracks all around it.

Pressure plate looked the same. It looks like the clutch disc deposited material on the PP.

Clutch disc. I take it that it started to shred and deposited material on both the PP and FW.

I'm going to be going with a stock PP, stock FW, and ACT extreme ceramic 6 puck disc. I've heard that this will hold around mid 400rwtq. Since I'm no where near that it should suit me fine for now.

Ugh... beautiful! A good 6 puck should hold up a bit better. Have you looked into feramic (sp?) clutch discs?

Makes me wonder what mine might look like by now? I know I've slipped the thing quite a lot, but it still holds just fine once you fully let off the pedal.

I have a replacement FW already. Thanks though. I've heard feramic material likes to weld itself to the PP or FW when overworked. I'll stay away from those for now. At the power level I'm running at now I should be good with a ceramic 6puck.
