well id like to say hi all! anyways heres the deal. i bought my 3rd supra a few weeks ago its an 88 targa turbo auto. now i have an 86.5 N/A with a jdm 7mgte/r154 swap and a bunch of aftermarket mods, but the shell is garbage and i needed a new shell so i bought the 88 which does need some body work such as bumpers among other things. now the original plan was to take the jdm swap out of the 86 and build the motor and rebuild the transmission. im talking full out, rods +40 pistons internal balance full ferrea valve train. you know the works. but with that, the 88 needs to be sent out and painted. it has a blown head gasket which im in the process of replacing, i figured id get it running and just drive it for a while. but anyways. i want to paint the car a dark silver or maybe a gunmetal grey and i want the engine bay painted too, so should i take the engine and trans out of the 88, build the engine while the body work is getting done to it, or should i build the jdm swap and drive the 88 until im finished with the motor and trans then tear everything out of it send it to go get painted and then toss the jdm swap into it. i know both these engines are particularly the same except for a couple sensors and a minor hp difference. im just not sure as to what path i should take. any input or thoughts on this would be great. and im sorry for jumping around so much. im excited as i have a new job that i can finally afford to buy all the parts i need and also work at a shop where i can work on it. and also. some input on the paint color choice too. i was thinking since i need new side trim i could pick up some carbon fiber side trim that might go well with those colors. even though im not much for carbon fiber. well a lot of it anyways. but hey, thanks everyone!

I'd just pull the motor out of the 88' and send it for the body work, and drive the 86.5 (assuming you need it as a daily, if not pull the motor out of that too and get that done while the other car's getting paint). No point in dumping any money into the 88' BHG motor... ususally the BHG is more than just a BHG.

Holy wall of text Batman! ;)

Got a good, solidly reliable daily driver? If so, good. If not, forget the Supra until you've got one. :)
