Hi guys. My first post after being member for 1905 days :) . I'm going to do the swap tomorrow if weather permits. I've pulled engine before and I've gone through guide how to do it. But if you think you can give me some tips how to make it quicker or any other tips, I'll be grateful. So I'm going to pull engine from 91 turbo auto and replace it with engine from 89 turbo auto(still in a car). Will it be all same. I guess I just swap the wiring as well. Auto box on 91 has smoother changes than 89, should I swap boxes or maybe just new oil will do. Do I have to swap ecu-s too. Like I said - anything you think would be good to know, let me know.
Thanks, Kuldar.

Been wondering if anymore people were going to migrate from the UK Mk3 Site :D

If i were you, in addition to swapping transmissions - while the transmission is OUT of the car - it'll be a doddle to replace the filter/strainer in it (Toyota P/N: 35330-30011) - it's preventative maintenance, and not doing it is a bit of a false economy. Get a new sump gasket for the box while you're at it (Toyota P/N: 35178-30010), and you'll need the proper pan sealant (Toyota P/N: 08826-00090).

When it's all back in, you'll want to do a full fluid flush with Dexron II.

As for swapping over the wiring....it *should* be okay, if it's just the engine harness & ECU, but, '89 was a wierd year for a lot of change over stuff, you may find plugs don't match up quite the same, check them beforehand. If both ECU's are 'grey socket', then you dont need to swap them over, and you can keep your existing one.

Also - i presume you have all new gaskets for the turbo downpipe?

Thanks for tips. I did managed to get "new" engine in today. I decided to leave the gearbox unchanged. Have to see how it goes with just new oil. Plugs are all grey. Engine mounts were different, but rest seemed same. Still need to connect all the bits, so hopefully friday night it will be running. I hope.

If the motor mounts are different then that's an early '89. Makes zero electrical difference (I'm told by someone who should know) it just means that you'll have to swap over your motor mounts, unless you want to swap the crossmember, too. The later crossmember makes a JZ swap easier. (More work than I'd do if staying 7M.)

I'd say keep the ECU and wiring harness that you have, and just connect it onto the new engine. Both are grey plug harnesses and should work with zero issues.

Thanks. Should I use mounts from 89 car and fitting together with engine to 91 car or should I keep the mounts that were in car first(91). ??
