The real fact of the matter is the majority of the pictures in this coverage were taken at the Road Race portion of the meet, Brandon was the ONLY MKIII that participated. Like I said, if they cover it like last year, there should be MKIII's included in the Drag Race and Show coverage.

In my opinion, I'm not surprise.

I knew what I was getting into when I decided I wanted an MA70 Supra.

MKIV should be a better handling car than the MKIII in factory form because the whole reason for redesigning a car is improvements right?

MKIV would get more coverage and attention than a MKIII because it is a popular looking car. It's been in more popular movie and video games than the MKIII car.

I decided to go MKIII when everyone I with going for Civics, Accords, Eclipses, MKIV were more popular, and the WRX was on the rise to the top of import scene. So this lack of a MA70 in the media doesn't bother me or make me like my car any less. I will also say that the MKIV is a great car and I like to appreciate each and every car for what it is.

I don't know why the Corvettes and F355 was doing at the event for Supra, but it's all good.:icon_bigg

To all who did not go, there was plently of mk3's at the dragrace portion. Lots of magazine quality ones I might add as well. But as Lance has said, most of this magazine's pics are from the road course, and not the drags.

And if I recall, the record for a non-nitrous 7m is somewhere in the 1200-1300 range.

Only reason I wasn't there was because I'm in the military now. I don't give a shit if the MkIV guys think they are deserving of there own little clique or whatever they wanna call it. I would have no shame being the ONLY MkIII at a gathering like that. The cars and what they are capable of are NOT the problem, it's the assholes who don't want to grow up and accept the Supra community as a whole. Just my .02.

WAY back in 1997 (before many of you here were even born - joke) the highest HP MkIV was just over 400whp. Nobody knew what the 2J was capable of.

I'd bet that if the MkIII had been the last Supra produced we would be seeing many more seriously high horsepower MkIIIs out there.

Take a look at the bigest HP MkIIIs out there today. Duane has the current record for a non-nitrous 7M-GTE. Kwnate (sp?) has the record with nitrous. Tony in Vegas is making a very respectible showing and I would expect him to turn up the power to regain his title from just a couple years ago. Bryan is building a MONSTER! Is that thing running yet? (sorry Bryan - had to poke a bit there). And there are others.

Also remember that the biggest of the biggest horsepower #s are coming from 3.4L stroker motors.

232 (crank) to 822 (wheel) is a HUGE jump!!!!!

Do the math. That's like a MkIV pushing out 1133whp

It CAN be done. You just CAN'T take shortcuts.

Choose a purpose and build your car for that purpose. Don't try to build an all around car if you want the highest horsepower or the lowest 1320 #s.

Well said Keith.

I called Tony to see what's up with his car today but he was not around.

there wasn't even one MKII there...

there where 2 MKI's at the show and shine though...

Yes, brandon and one other guy (I wish I had a chance to chat with him, but it was a white MKIII, gutted, plexiglass rear window, huge wing, and a cut front bumper with tons of sponsors flying around the track) where the ONLY MKIII's out there on the roadcourse! There where more lotus elises than MKIII's out there!

I'm in the process of building my car for the track at 2K8, so we can actually have some decent showing out there...

The heavy hitters *cough*Duane&Nate*uncough* need to get their asses to Houston and show up a good portion of the MKIV crowd...

Bullshit huh? Really?

What are you "eagerly awaiting"? The MKIV club to knock on your door? Or maybe till you car is no longer a turd?

Talk (like "BULLSHIT") is cheap. C'mon, badass, lets see the slips. Oh...don't have any? What a surprise! Is your ride busting into the 10 second mark? Cause if it isn't you aint gonna "upstage" anybody serious. Dude that bravado with nothing to back it up act has already been done.

No disrespect intended, don't want to fight but this sounds like all talk no walk, and it gets old. If my bullshit detector is giving me a false alarm then I appollogize in advance. Just being honest.

What he is saying is, instead of feeling sorry for ourselves because we aren't rich assholes with the "well known" generation, we should make the best showing we can, which is hard because, as it's already been said, MkIII owners have it in there head that they can play cheap and cut corners, or be some cookie-cutter Supra owner and throw a Lexus V8 AFM and some 550s on there car and call it a day. No offense to anyone at all, but I can almost count on two hands the number of MkIIIs that are truly seperate from the rest. If we want to have an output that meets like TX2K8 have, we need to show that the cars we own aren't the same as everything else out there.

Currently? No, I'm not running - I've got a rebuild going on :)

PTE67/680s/Tec2/Forged rods & pistons/etc etc - I've got a build thread (Doward's 375rwhp Build) going, feel free to check it out :D

What I was saying, is that I don't give a flying leap if there were ONLY MKIVs at a meet, I'll be damn proud to show up in my MKIII, when I complete it.

A lot of MKIII owners seem scared of the MKIV, like the MKIV dominates the MKIII in all respects - that is, in my opinion, untrue. ;)

no MKIII love again... C'mon not all MKIII's are cheap ass pile of BHG, show us some love!
Many of us own MKIII while they could buy a MKIV not because MKIII's are cheaper, because they like them more!

Right on the money!

And in all fairness, alot of it is our fault, some is not our fault. But what right do we have to piss and moan about not being taken seriously when we ourselves don't believe the mkiii is worthy competition for the mkiv.

If you doubt what I'm saying, look at how many threads revolve around telling somebody he paid, or wants to much money for his car.

I read, and wrote in one thread, a couple of days ago. The thread featured a link to a very nice mkiii that had obviously had a lot of time and money invested in it. I can't remember exactly what the guy wanted for the car (@$13k), but so many people wrote in trying to devalue this very nice car, saying "this guy was way out of line" (i'm paraphrasing), that I was really personally offended as a mkiii owner.

Hey, If we as mkiii enthsiasts don't see the obvious value in a car like this, (the guy had more in aftermarket and custom parts and work then he was asking for the whole car) then how do we expect anyone else to have any reverence, respect or see the value of a mkiii.

Doward and Suprabad, you're right on the money... I am the ONLY active MkIII owner in my state's Supra Club, yet i still attend all meets and continue to spread the MkIII love... Sure it sucks that i never get any video or pic footage... But that will change very soon once my build gets under way ;)

I only say that every time GarageFujimoto posts a picture of a car from Japan.

Hang in there...your day is comming!

I think that we as MKIII enthusiasts can help move the perception of our cars forward by discouraging the "it's not worth much money" mentality.

I strongly believe MKIII's have been grossly undervalued for way too long and are due for a real jump in dollar value, as well as respect.

Forgive me if you've heard me tell this story before but I think it makes a good point:

I bought a 1966 GTO convertible some years ago for $5k. At the time virtually everyone I knew said "You paid too much for it" and "Nobody is gonna ever want a gas guzzling giant of a car like that".

I sold that car 5 years later for $80k.

So like Nietzsche once wrote: "the future is always a surprise".

Exactly right yet again!

Everyone is calling me stupid for staying with the MkIII, and i am getting even more flack for staying with the 7m... You can only imagine their responses when i told them i will be getting a turbo A as a daily when my build gets under way...

I really don't care though... I love my mkIII, and my mkIII loves me :D:D:D

Half the comments in this thread are way off base. When you attend the Texas Meets, the MKIII's are very much welcomed by all. The MKIV owners that are assholes are internet assholes, none are assholes in person. At least they don't show up at these meets. You guys are driving a wedge where none needs too be driven, a Supra is a Supra. As for the coverage, you guys must have forgotten about, or never saw this thread last year.

Here's a prime example from the other forum, go read post number 10!
