so i finally started my supra after putting new engine in! its soo amazing. buuuuut, im getting smoke from turbo and burning from turbo. from what i can see it looks likes its coming mostly between turbo and the elbow where o2 goes. kinda like the gasket it smoking. but obviously its not smoking.

could it be from rust penetrant that i used on the bolts? or could this be oil leaking from turbo?

thanks

Whoa there lets have some more of a look at the turbo the setup and possible problems before we go driving around with it.

What kind of turbo is it? If it is an aftermarket turbo and more specifically is it a ball bearing turbo? If so......make sure that you have an oil pressure restrictor in there that prevents the oil pressure from climbing too high and blowing past your seals which is also not good for them.

Also no metter what type of turbo you got make double triple sure that all your oil lines are nice and tight. You don't want to get yourself an oil fire under your hood. There will be some oil and grease burninng off when you first get your motor all started up for the first time burning off. But this is minimal.

Your turbo could have bad seals too. When exactly does it smoke? The whole time?

Turbos need to be primed before start up as well. If its just a little smoke coming off the exhaust and manifold and you sprayed wd40 or had greesy hands its most likey that.

The mechanix gloves or the plastic ones? I hate using gloves, even though i get cut up bad.... A LOT i rather not use them.

I have had smoke on first start-up after every head gasket swap and full rebuild I have done on a 7m. I have always used new gaskets and noticed that the smoke stopped after the first 50-75 miles. I was never told that was what it was, but I attributed the smoke to the factory coating (if there was any) burning off the gaskets during the first few heat cycles. My .02

Its the greese. If your parts arent clean and your hands arent clean they havae greese on them which burns off.

djt i use the latex gloves.if you get the right size so there tight it makes things way easier and less slipperier and cleaner.

yea. To me smoke after a rebuild is normal. But if your driving & you catch the smell of coolant check your temperature immediately. Hope you replaced your turbo's coolant hoses.
