I checked that when I got home last night, and ebay have now closed the case as the seller never responded to my initial response to their claims.... So it's over with no unpaid item strike, and the feedback from both sides still stands (they left me glowing feedback, as I paid _instantly_, so they had nothing to complain about)

hehe... more pics will be forthcoming as it starts to go back together...

i didn't take any at all when i was taking the 2jz turbos off, partly because i was getting a bit carried away with the work and not really thinking about taking photos, and partly because the last thing I want to do is encourage someone else to put 2jz turbos on a 1jz... however, i have still got all the parts and will put some basic info together on how I went through my side of the job... (the turbos were fairly heavily modified when I got them)

Also, I didn't really think that many people would care about the 2jz turbo thing... but I've had a few people say "you should have taken lots of photos to show how it went together" when they've come over to see the progress...

Last night I got the turbo, manifold, downpipe, wastegate assembly back from a mate of mine who was cutting and welding the wastegate pipe. Slipped it back on the studs and did up a couple of nuts to get a better idea of what clears and what doesn't.

yup... all the JZA70's I know of in Aus are targas, and mine is the only factory manual I've seen (allegedly there is another one, but I haven't seen it yet)

My parts car was an aero JZA70, "iwantajza70" from sf.com.au used to own it. He sold it to someone who sent it into a telephone pole sideways and thats how I ended up with it :p. Such a shame as it was a really clean car. Loving your progress, wish mine was moving along this fast...

I'm still deciding how to run the intake plumbing, but I suspect I'll leave the front housing orientated like it is in the photos, with a 90 degree bend in the pipework just after it clears the engine lifting hook, and then a couple of 45's to line it up with the intercooler pipe.

I had another look at it tonight... without cutting the housing, that's the only way it's going to go together....

Tonight I measured up the oil and water lines, so we're getting a little closer... I was hoping to get it together by the weekend, but I don't think that's going to happen...

time for a quick update.. everythings back together now, well it was.. i drove the car again the other day, but due to some issues getting the wastegate fitting right, the gate is back off the car and i'm trying to sort that bit out now... hopefully it won't be much longer now and i'll be back on the road...

ok... i've now managed to get the gate back on... was having trouble getting enough force on it to seat the seal properly in order to be able to do up the v-band clamp... but by supplying 10psi to it with an old 12v air compressor, i've taken care of that...

the car is still not making any real boost, but it's also probably got some very very dirty plugs, which should explain that... i have 6 spare plugs sitting in my drawer at work, so will hopefully sort that very soon...

now... time for some photos...

time for another update... i've changed the plugs, checked a heap of inlet and exhaust joins, found a big intake leak that is now fixed...

car was quiet at the gate, made good boost, for about 20km's... now the gate is leaking again and it's not making any boost again...

and now the wastegate is back off the car... think it's been on and off 3 or 4 times now...

tomorrow i'll send it off to a mates workshop to see if he can stop it sticking part way open... he's had some before that he had to linish the valve stem as they were not sitting flush in the valve seat... linishing the valve gives it a little sideways movement and lets it seat properly when it shuts...

other than that, the cars going alright... the tune is miles off, and not so easy to do anything about at the moment with a huge exhaust leak, but once the gate is sorted, i plan on driving the arse off it...

OK.... time for yet another update...

i didn't do much more after the last post, as we were heading off to the US shortly, and didn't have the cash to buy another gate, especially as i had a brand fricken new one that shouldn't have a problem...

we checked the gate again, it appears the 2 parts of the lower housing aren't quite round and aren't quite fixed in position, a mate of mine took it to his work in case he could fix the valve on his lathe, but it turned out that wasn't the problem (it looks like the valve is either bent or off centre in the chamber)

anyway, he set it up so the valve was central, i put it back on the car and put 20km's on it, only opening the gate maybe 5 times at most, and it rotated and started leaking badly again.

so, after that I made the call to the guys who did the pipework for me, and ordered a genuine Tial 44mm v-banded clamp, picked it up saturday morning, put it on the car last night and drove it to work this morning... no exhaust leaks, no problems with overheating yet, and the power steering worked properly for the first time in years...

The power steering issue is an interesting one... Local workshop C-Red did a heap of pipework for me, and made up my braided lines and in the process, they found my engine mounts were the wrong ones. These mounts have been in the car for years, since the previous owner had it, and other shops have worked on the car in that time and not picked up on it, as evidenced by the intake pipe that is now about an inch too short (this one was made when the previous owner had the car). The shorter mounts were causing the power steering lines to rub on the sump, which may have affected it's performance (my power steering failed several years ago, and despite a couple of attempts to fix it, mostly centering around replacing failed lines, it never came good). Anyway, while this didn't seem like it would fix the steering, it's the only thing thats been done to the car that had anything at all to do with the steering system, and now it's working perfectly...

Another update and all is still good....

Just ordered a sheet of heat shield material to see what I can fold up for the bay, in particular for the heater hose that runs along the dump pipe.

Car is still running well, but untuned, have got it to idle strongly at 1000rpm now, and it starts on the second turn of the key with no outside assistance (used to have to catch the throttle to get it to keep running and took about 7 or 8 goes before it would actually stay alive). Without the aid of the o2 sensor, it seemed it was running a little rich under low revs and with vacuum, and a little lean under boost, I've adjusted the mixtures slightly to correct for that and it's still running pretty well, but as I've yet to get an o2 sensor working on it, I'm keeping the boost low for now in case it is out...
