How did you go about doing it? File? Dremel? Magic kinfe?(haha)

If you have any tips or ideas, please share.

If you have a piston ring filer that just happens to be laying around... you should also let me know.

dremel? yikes that would be scary and take too much off too fast. If I remember correctly I asked the same thing when I was doing my motor. I believe the responce was either a ring filer or a very fine bastard file. pinch the ring on the file and draw towards you. Be careful not to go too far cause you cant put material back on, lol

i've tried doing where you pinch it... but thats kinda hard...
and actually if you use the fiberlgass cut off disc, and an adjustable dremel so its not at 30k RPM, it doesnt take off much... but my problem is cutting STRAIGHT. haha

im buying one tonight... just going to bite the bullet. I rebuild enough engines where i can see it being worth it... and the next forged motor i build will be for a friend, so its going to need some custom work.

and summit racing gets here next day!

actually, the trick is to mount the file in a vice, pointing towards you. then you hold the piston ring in both hands and close it on the file. push onto the file so that the burrs are on the inside diameter of the piston ring and you dont end up pulling small chungs of ring facing materiall off the outside diameter.

I used a cheapo ring filer, at least it does both sides at once... Be careful! to reiterate, you can't replace material if you get carried away! ps. Iirc, it was a pain doing my Ross rings, quite the production. gl.
