i was going to ask how thick you made that fiberglass, 3/4" is pretty serious. did you use woven sheets of glass or is it like an oriented strand style? those subs look like they need more than 0.65 CuFt... dang. whats the sensativity rating on them? hopefully its high, like 97db :)

I used sheets. I'll have to take a pic of the bottom of the box one of these days. It's hella thick. The subs do indeed require more than .65cuft. They require .80cuft sealed. I've decided to cut out the front brace of the box and give each sub their own 1.0cuft. OZ says they should sound great with that kind of volume. The subs sensitivity is pretty low. Sensitivity (1W/1M) 84 dB / 85 dB. But these are SQ subs, not SPL subs - so it doesn't bother me any. Plus, that AudioArt will slam these puppies all day long :icon_bigg

I'd try it with the volume you have now - manufacturer's specs are always whacked.

It's easy to cut that out, less so to add it back in later... (Of course you could use the dirty trick of just gluing wooden blocks into the inside of the chamber to drop the volume again later. Not that I've ever done that to a customer's car, of course. ;)

What is the total volume of space for the sparer tire area (well)?

I'd like to throw a couple of 8's (maybe an 8 & a 10) in there and make sure I know what to build.

im pretty sure you can do 2 10's while still being able to store a targa top in the back and also keeping the spare tire. Let me look up the sub and ill get back to you on how you can build your box.

Any updates on this?

ah, maybe they are on the low sensativity side/inefficient cuz they are meant for SPL? idk, its been so long since ive even looked at subs. at least 5 years for me. i used to be all about the SPL but now i just want SQ and a full range w/o needing 2500watts of power.

all i got right now is Highs and a little bit lower Highs with the Infinity's i put in my car... gotta get some Mids and Lows. i dont care about the sub-harmonics though; if i manage to get some w/ my speaker setup, yay. if not, oh well.

i wonder if a pair of 10"s would be enough to get me mid range too... or if id have to run 8's to get into the 350-400hz range w/o sounding like crap.

I think when I measured mine with the spare tire tiedown hump, it came out tp about 2cu/ft. I put a boston 12" in half the spare well with the baffle (what you mount the speaker on) about 2" above the floor, the box is about 1cu/ft. I'll try and post my box and trunk tomorrow.

looks nice :)

I didn't make my setup, but the guy who had the car before me worked in an audio shop and did a REALLY nice box to fit in the spare storage. It's made for 2x 10". It's also got compartments for 2 amps and a power cap though too. I'll post pics when I get a chance :)

Okay, decided to just put up some quick pics from my phone. I know they're REALLY crappy quality, but it works for now. Gives you an idea on how everything looks installed. Don't mind the two sets of speaker wires too...they're for my 6x9s that are in boxes. I made it that way so I can move them when I take the top off ;)

I opted to save weight and work and use the sheet metal of the tire well as the main part of the enclosure. I anchored the center with a bolt/rod to the top board, and dynamatted the metal, and it is really quite solid. Although with huge subs and power, your box is the better way to go.

How's the sub box coming along??

I haven't even messed with it since I last posted. The surface rust in the spare tire well turned out to be pretty deep, so I just ended up cutting the entire bottom out. Now I'm going to have to bang the new steel to conform to the box before I install it, which seems like a pain so I've been letting it slide for awhile. Lately I've been doing work on the new engine. Basically just cosmetic stuff at this point. Looking pretty sick too. Maybe over the weekend I'll finish up the trunk.
