Alright, so I had my lovely car parked and plugged in, all "tucked-in" for a warm winter night. I headed off to bed at around 2am and settled down for a nice, uninterrupted ten-hour slumber. When suddenly, not a few hours later (5am), my Father BURSTS into my room,

"SONMYCARISBROKENINEEDTOGETTOWORKCANIBORROWYOURCAR?!"

This was a one-way question. I feigned my best smile and leapt out of bed to my dear-ol'-daddy's assistance. (Apparently his always-breaking-down 2003 modified PT Cruiser was overheating; he is a rough driver after-all). I handed him the keys to my car, told him a little about the vehicle (he's not new to driving) and sent him on his way to work. I informed him to unplug the car before driving off, lest my block-heater be ripped out of my grill.

What I didn't know is that he would IGNORE the "Parking Brake Engaged" light on the dash and the HUGE LEVER STICKING UP.

So, my predicament is thus: He is still gone for the day and I am left in bewilderment about possible damage.

My Father drove roughly 5 kilometers (over 3 miles) with the parking brake engaged in my car. The highest achieved speed was probably around 80 km/h (50 miles/hr) for about 3 kilometers (nearly 2 miles).

Should I worry about this? (Ie. Damage done to braking system/parking brake?)

Thanks for your time,
Suitcase Jefferson

My father has done the same on just about every vehicle I've owned. Just adjust the pads via the screw-spreader on the bottom of the hub. The rotors should have a rubber cover over the adjustment hole so you can get them fine tune after getting them close with the rotor off.

Supras use shoes in drums/disc, so chances are he just wore out the shoes (which are about $80each at the dealer, give or take)...

take the rear disc off and inspect..

Very good for what he is doing- a DD in the winter. Cars like people who keep them warm :) Especially up north like he is!

Your supra has a block heater?

Update:

NOT FUCKING ANYMORE.

I am so angry right now.

The one thing I told my father this morning when I handed him the keys was "UNPLUG THE CORD BEFORE DRIVING AWAY."

And now I found the other half of my blockheater cord stuck in the outlet. Fffffff...

Atleast I still have my electric battery heater...

No worries, Dude! Cords are easy to replace/repair, and the parking brake thing can wait until warmer weather!

He was likely stressed that his car was inop and spaced on what you had asked! That said, he should be getting this stuff fixed/replaced- it's only fair :)

Ok well as a parent ( son 19 not bad, daughter 22 totaled 2 of mine an 2 of her own an 2k damages to the school bus in my yard)... I would not ASK for repairs. We have a tendency to list everything the child has broken since the day they were BORN!! followed by well when you pay me for all that lol. Odds are good dad will just offer up to pay. The important part did he bring it back with more gas??????

Well, he still has yet to fuel the car, but he said he'd bring it back with a full tank.

Mayhaps I over-reacted; there seems to be no damage to the parking brake system and as you guys said, a cord is easy to replace. <3

Happy St. Paddies day.

hahahhhaaahha rofl, I'm sorry this thread is too much! Given my age, it's good to see the shoe on the other foot..... This is so minor shit, quit your bitchin and move on, tell your dad how much you love him too.

Oh I see post #15, good for you
