ok here goes it...

What makes the r154 tranny so much better then the w58? I ask because I'm sporting the w and have future plans to go turbo shooting for 400ish hp but I'd rather not spend the money on a new trans when that could be used elsewhere if the a can handle it.

How much are some of you guys paying for 1pc aluminum drive shafts....and from where.... Just read about shaftmasters but no price.

R154 is tougher and can withstand more power, but is a tad rougher to shift.

IIRC one piece shafts are $400-500

(search harder next time! :icon_razz)

Although you didn't search hard enough, the main reason is because R154s can withstand way more power than the W58, although the W58 shifts smoother. People say that W58s can last up to 350 RWHP, but some don't, and some last longer depending on how you treat the transmission. Hard launches hurt.

For Lightweight Steel/Aluminum driveshafts (1 or 2 pc), you can find them at shaftmasters or jawsgear, for 320-400 bucks.

please forgive me...I'm doing all this on an iPhone so I can only search so hard before I get pissed at the small screen LOL. The reason I ask these questions is cause I was just under the supra checking for oil leaks and while under there I gave the ds a good tug and the carrier seems not so well which would explain the huming at 35mph that turns into an ungodly shake up too 100mph... Figured I'd save myself some stress and get rid of the whole setup....but I don't want to have to buy another shaft if I drop in the r154...

I like the trans that's in the car and it feels nice and tight so if it can deal with 400hp then no need the change.

You also have to think about the clutch, w58 and R154 use different style pressure plates. A non turbo clutch wont be able to hold 400rwhp for very long at all.

MKII's are lighter, so less stress is put on the tranny for that power level.

This pic usually nails the point home about which is better...

lol

suuuuure, besides the fact the main and secondary shafts are HUGE compared to the W58...

THe R154 is also quite a bit heavier because of all that...
