Few quick 1jz swap questions

I have a few quick 1jz swap questions. Not finding what I need in search for some reason. I found a 1jz-gte motor I want to buy for my 90 turbo. It is complete except for about 2-3 parts.

Are 1jz and 2jz ignitors interchangable? I believe they are. Also isn't there one from like a 95 Avalon that is the same also? I would have to buy one.

If I don't get the Hydrofan what other options do I have. I was thinking Faal Fans. They are just plug and play correct?

Also for motor mounts, I can use 2jz-gte as well if I'm not mistaken. I have a 90 Supra turbo. Is that right?

And does anyone have suggestions for a cheap intercooler kit as well. I'm trying to avoid having to fabricate piping at this point in time. I was thinking of a 2jz kit again. Would that work on stock twins?

Thanks for any help.

The 1j and 2j ignitors will work on either engine. The 2j ignitor is a little smaller. The avalon/camry ignitor working is a myth, however, you can pick up a new 2j ignitor from NAPA for like $140.

You can use e-fans and they'll work fine, however you need to put in a cooler for the hydrofan pump because it'll burn out if you just cap it and take the water pump with it.

As far as motor mounts, you can use the rubberized part of the 2j mount, but not the entire mount. So if you don't have brackets you need to pick those up.

Alright so I should get some BIC Mounts or some 1jz specific mounts then. Thanks. So the Avalon ignitor does not work then. I had thought it did.

As far as the Hydrofan pump goes. Can it just be removed or bypassed, or is it a part of the water pump? I'm not sure which setup this motor has, if it's the hydrofan or the other one. Some of these motors have clutch fans, correct? That's the one thing I'm still sketchy on. I believe the motor is from a Soarer. I know it's rear oil sump, but I'm checking on these other things now.

I'll check just-intercoolers on ebay again. I was looking at them before. Is that a universal kit that needs cutting and welding or is it a Supra specific setup? I'm trying to find plug and play on the intercooler kit if I can? There was a nice ARC kit on ebay a few weeks ago I would have bought if I knew I was going this route.

Its a universal kit, but is SO easy to install, and i think i only cut one MAYBE two pipes. VERY simple to do. If your doing a 1jz swap, making and intercooler fit should be like really simple. :)

And your gonna pay alot more for a specific kit. Vendors on here have some for 600+.

I love my intercooler it was cheap and proven to be effective.

I have a set of stock JZA70 mounts that Ill sell you or you can get some BIC mounts. I would honestly ditch the stock intercooler setup, go with something bigger and use some hardpipes. The soft pipes are cake to re-create, 5 90* bends and some strait sections (for a stock intercooler). Snag an ebay IC or one from DM.

Yeah, people really shouldn't be afraid of fitting an intercooler in. it's not that hard.

Mine was all custom work done by me. First time attempting something like this.

A little patience, and it worked out very well. Uses stock mounting locations, replaces the latch support, and PS cooler support. Doesn't have gay straps coming down from the top of the rad support like most installs I see. I've only welded a handful of times in my life too.

It's a 12x24x4" intercooler with HUGE end-tanks as you can see. Pretty much the most extreme size anyone would want to stick in this car.

Edit: one more picture of the support I made.

Can you email me a picture of those mounts foreverpsycotic. I'm interested if they're in good shape. Are they new or used?

Also does anyone know the 1jz and 2jz ignitor part #'s? I need those.

Thanks for all the input on the intercooler guys. Looks very doable, so I'll do that myself as well.

You can fit a custom intercooler no problem if you buy the right size. I bought mine from driftmotion and it fits great, and I was still able to keep the core support and hydrofan cooler. I am also using the 2.5" piping kit from Driftmotion that works great with the IC. I only had to remove my tow hooks so that my IC pipes wouldn't rub.

Mine was 4" WITH tow hooks AND hydro fan cooler ;)

I'm just messing with you, nice install. Except I see gay straps coming from the top of your rad support :)
