Fender roll/cut

Has anyone ever cut out the fender lip on the rear quarters instead of rolling them? Ive seen this done on a few different cars as an option to just rolling.

Im in the process of removing some minor rust on the fender lips and re-undercoating the wheelwells. The only thing is, I dont think I can roll the drivers fender lip due to the rust actually going right through in a couple of spots (on the lower, drivers side, fender lip only). Im already repainting the car so cutting out the lip could be an option. Is there anyone whos tried this on a supra and any down falls to just cutting it out?

Don't do this, unless you have no other option":nono: It makes the sheet metal very weak! My son's friend did it on his 240sx, and ended up getting over fenders, because it would get misshapen very easily, and cracked off almost all the paint in the process!

My other option is to just replace part of the lip. Going to see what all I can do on it today.

sand it down, patch weld it, and grind smooth.
