I picked up an oil cooler from a TurboII FC RX7 to use on my 1JZ. It has a built in 160 degree thermostat, but when the oil is cold I'd rather not squeeze it through the cooler lines and have an excessive pressure drop, so I'm planning on running a sandwich adapter with a thermostat so it bypasses there and only flows through the lines when the oil is hot. I have an OEM Volvo 760 sandwich plate with a 180 degree thermostat that I might use too, I just have to see if it's the right thread size to fit onto the filter base. So far I spent $15. I need some adapter fittings and hose, but I think I can finish this for less than $60 total.

It is a used part so I'm leaving it in the ultrasonic parts cleaner for a few hours then pressure flushing it with methylene chloride. I'm not worried about crud messing up my motor, whatever I don't clean out will get caught in the oil filter (it's after the cooler).

Anyone else is using an RX7 oil cooler on a Supra?

Iirc the thermostats blow in those. Better of just using the sandwich plate and a universal cooler with push lock hose.

There's a blockoff mod to take it out, which I might do, or I might just ebay it and get something else. This won't fit where I wanted to put it, so I might just get something shorter and wider.
