Hi I opened my hood today and to my surprise was a rather girthy upper heater hose. I also have no coolant in the coolant resivor. Whenever i add coolant to the resivor it would just drip out of the drip tube. It would be bone dry once all the coolant has been dripped out. whats going on here?

Okay, if after reaching operating temperature and you got a 'girthy' upper radiator hose, there's a good chance your thermostat is stuck CLOSED! 9 out of 10 times this is true... you should see the motor either running a little hot... or a LOT! Usually overheating occurs if this continues.

don't run without one...

replace that hose as well as it's gonna fail eventually. Expansion like that is only allowed if the nylon ply in the rubber breaks...
