Fan Clutch

How do you know if the fan clutch is bad???? I have a very loud squeek when i start my car but after acouple seconds it goes away....when it goes away the fan speeds up??? If the car isnt cold, it really doesnt squeek either...

with the car off, grab and spin the fan, if it spins more then 2 revolutions, its bad.

normal is about 1 spin before it stops.

Sounds like your fan belt is too loose.
Tighten it a bit & see if the noise dissapears.

the clutch does dont make noise ....... tighten the belt.

i got a noise like this on mine. it squeaks for a couple of seconds on start up then subsides and is gone. its not the noise belts make when they slip though

i spun my fan and i didnt even get a revolution.....how can you tell if you belt is to lose???

push on it and tell us how much it bends down. I dont think it should deflect more than 1/4-1/2" :dunno: I'm sure the tsrm tells you what the tension should be.

thats too much play in the belt

i adjust the belt by moving the alternator right???

Depends how hard you push it, If your really forcing it then you can get it to far. I thought it shouldnt be that much pressure to test the tension in the belt?

i just tighten the belt to see if thats it now i have to wait until everything cools off to really see if that was it...thanks everyone

When ever you warm up you're car then let it sit for 5-10 min do you hear the fan clutch push a lot of air for about 1/2 a min? Other then that sounds like a loose or warn/dry belt.
