Yup, I got the SC clutch and the mk4 n/a fan here on my desk, combined it is 3.75" to the farthest tip of the fan blade. The clutch itself is approx 2 7/8" from the watepump flange to the mounting face for the fan blade, the clutch apppears to be the same as the GTE clutch, but without the GTE one off my car to measure it I cant say exactly. The GE fan blade looks to be about 1/2 -5/8" closer to the engine than the 2jzgte blade, but the GTE setup is still bolted onto the car and hard to measure. But it looks like the either clutch with the n/a blade will fit with about 3/4"- 1" between the fan and Koyoa Race Al rad, the core clearence is not really the problem, its the end tanks, now I have about 1/4" between the blade and the upper tank, with the GE blade it will be 3/4"-1" away.

I would think 1" is still going to be the bare minimum you would want that fan to be from the rad. 1.5" would be great! Would give you lots of room for the unknown.

Any one have any idea how much room there is from the fan on a 7M to the rad? Would be a good template to go by.

Thanks alot man, I appreciate the effort on getting me the measurements!

Still hunting around, but I'm leaning toward the 02 4runner 5vz fan/clutch as it's only ~3" front of fan to clutch flange, just have to modify the mounting holes to fit JZ pulley.

I'm hoping it will move enough air, at the proper rpms... There is another thread going right now about different clutches for the 7M, and it brought to my attention that there could be significantly different behaviors in the different clutches... I'll have about 2k more rpms out of the 1JZ vs the 5VZ, So maybe a bad idea... Still doing homework, not ready to get this done till next month earliest. :(

Remember, my particular situation does not involve a Supra, but any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Again, Thanks.
Nick.

Maybe try a LS400 clutch , I think you may be able to bolt a 7M blade on the clutch. BTW the SC300 clutch and mk4 N/A fan only work on the 1jz, the 2jz has a different waterneck which sticks out farther than the 1jz one. With the 1jz there is only about 1/4"-3/8" between the blades and the water neck (SC and N/A combo). So Nick, I think this is the thinnest combo that you can get on a JZ, what car is it in?

It's a 1J in a 4Runner... Hadn't thought about the water neck being in the way, that could very well ruin my 5vz fan plan. :( The 3.75" for the combo you have is still a little too thick for me, unless I buy a thinner radiator or get rid of the AC, which I'd rather not do. 3.5 is the max I can go with the space I have to work with.

Haven't had work for weeks, so the truck is on the back burner for now. I'll update in the next few weeks if I find a thinner combo that works... Just in case anyone else is looking for a thinner fan setup as well.

I think in your case you will have to move the rad farther forward. I just put a 1jz into a 89 2wd truck and we had to cut the rad support and move the rad (custom 3 core AL rad) we ended up using a pusher electric fan. But for offroading I wouldnt trust an E fan.

Yeah I already cut out the stock radiator support and made a new bolt on part around a custom radiator. The radiator is a 3" core, but with the e-fans/ shroud it was almost 8" thick, it literally came through the grille. I had to get the truck on the road at the time, and I mounted it in a rather ridiculous fashion to get it running... but I want to fix all that now.

The e-fans(spal) were too loud, I was thinking about those thin flexalite fans, but managed tomove my motor back almost 1.5" and now I hope I can squeeze a clutch/fan combo. I've got to redo the mounting for the radiator/condenser to fit inside the factory grille, then I'll know the exact amount of space I've got left for the fan(s). From measurement I should have about 4" to play with, but I'll have to see how it ends up before I can make a final decision on fan.

Anyways, thanks for the input.

yeah, IIRC Aaron said one of the LS400 clutches with a 7m blade was the thinnest combo when I was looking into options for my 1J. I could be wrong though, or perhaps I misunderstood but thats what I remember.

Post some pics of your setup, what year 4runner, 4wd?

I've got no current pics, but there's a (very crappy) website listed in my profile. That's all from about a year ago when I got it running, lots of changes now, will try and get some current pics up soon. 4wd in the respect that the t-case is in, but I need to re-gear the front differential before I can use it... one day...

That set up did not work well at all for BIC, he ended up with a big hole in his Koyo rad at the drag strip. This happend in Vegas and he is now getting the parts he listed above to solve this issue.

Again a MKIV TT clutch & fan with Aluminum rad will not work, its just too clouse.

Jeremy

He had the wrong fan iirc, we use the mk4 ge fan, and a SC300 clutch. We've used our setup on lots of cars, including my own Supra, with no issues.

The new setup we have that gives more clearance is a LS400 clutch with 7m fan. We have the LS400 clutch in stock for $140 brand new. We include washers to make a perfect fit of the clutch to the pump.
