Factory Radio and more??

I am putting either a 1987 am/fm/cassette factory radio in my sons car or the am/fm/cassette/CD radio from a 1992 in his car. How do these radio's sound? I am not looking for a thumper but as long as it sounds good.
Also.. I was told that the interior of my sons car (shadow gray) is very rare and only 600 of them were made. This is the first time I have ever heard that statement.

Not too sure on the quality of the radio's but if you want you can also use many of the the newer stock toyota and scion radio's and they will be plug and play and would probably be a bit more powerful.
As for the interior I know the shadow gray is one of the most sought after but think 600 is too low of a number. I could be wrong though.

hmm it all depends on ur sons car, what year is it? 1991 and up had the shadow grey interior and is very rare, very few people have shadow grey interiors, majority are just the regular medium grey that came in pre-91. But as for the stereo, i have always thought that pre-89 and post-89 had different stereo harnesses since the pre-89 did not have the additional 2 speakers on the rear panels like 89+ did, and IIRC 89+ sound stage is better due to the stereo is different but ill have to check on that. pre-91 had 4" speakers in the front and 91 -92 had the 6.5" speakers on the doors thats why the speaker grille is different (much larger in size)

IIRC the only MK3 that had a different harness was the 86.5

I believe you are correct. A '01 Camry radio plugged right in to my '87.

His car is a 1987. I am not sure that it is shadow gray. It could be medium gray. Here is a pic...

Shadow gray leather came in the later model MKIII's, and looks almost black.
