Well i was just wondering if anybody has any information of the HKS cams that toyota put in the TRD mk3 supras, i think they might have been JDM only but i am unsure

Has anybody come across a set that came factory in the 7M? and the question is would these cams be a upgrade from standard 7M cams?

Thanks
Nick

Wouldn't the TRD Supras, if there was such a thing, use the TRD cams, not the HKS cams? Maybe the TRD and HKS have similar cams but still.

Just looks like a normal supra with some badges slapped on it...

It doesn't say anywhere that any of that stuff is factory and I highly doubt there are any factory HKS cams in any Toyota car.

there were only a handful of hks cams brought to the states.

pete howard had a set, and sold them to reg in canada sev years back.

very rare, and very expensive.

i know erin had the specs for them and had schneider grind him a set to the specs back a few years ago.

if you are looking for cams the best way to go are the bc cams that are now available.

fyi- there are also the groupA cams, which i think is what was being referred to as trd cams.

blitz made some back in the day, but were $1800. i knew one guy that had them, and they idled so bad and such terrible low end power they were pulled out.

Just because it is mad JDM tyte!!

hilarious

go price out a pair of custom made web cams, tedd's component cams. Any degree and lift that you want. Still cheaper than the "rare" hks cams!

Any word on the Toda cams ??

I know one-a you old timers knows the specs ...

There's a staggered set (264/272) on fleabay right now that're mighty tempting.

Somebody go buy 'em so I can stop looking at them!

*edit*
I thought I'd answered my question here: http://users.tpg.com.au/users/loats/technical/7mge/camshafts.html

... but no "@.050" specs for Toda.

It's got a pic of the TRD stamped, Group-A cam right up top, though.

My TRD specs are different from both the Group-A and the HKS. Not sure of the duration but the lift is around 9mm.

well, back 8yrs ago there wasnt a ton of options.

i guess if you had a standalone, big turbo and lot of rpm they may be badass. but these days there are so many options you can pretty much have some made to your specs for cheaper.

interesting trd cams. i hadnt seen those before.

The Group-A Supras in Japan came with a 256 x 11mm lift cams.
The only way they will work in a normal 7M is to cut clearance for the tall cam lobes.
I had found 3 sets of them in Europe a few years ago, and sold them on what is now called chinaBay (or eRip).
Here is a picture of the area that is cut on the factory Gr.A head to clear the big bump sticks.

The Gr.A also came with a 65mm throttle, full diameter throttle cross tube, a modified CT26 that had a To4e size compressor impeller, and the fuel management was MAP based, not the Karmin Vortex AFM that we got.

TODA cams and shim-under sets are still available in Japan, but not from TODA-USA.

I bought my TODA shim-under set over there, after several requests to the USA people ended up with them telling me they had no interrest in even a special order with money up front!
Guess they just don't want our business..........

Anyway, I doubt if the TRD Supra had anything other than special stickers, gear shift knob, and wheels.........

They don't sell performance, except for pick-up trucks!
