So now that I've had my car back for a little while from the POS mech, I am finding other little things that never existed pre-mech. The scratched up fender where they leaned over the car, the gaping to the metal scrapes down along the base of the door, not to mention the oil sender that suddenly quit working during its stay at thier shop...All of which didn't happen at his shop, and good luck proving they did...
Anyways, I'm over all that but now have found the auto trannie seems to be acting very weirdly now. It's like the shift lever doesn't really control the shifting anymore. I can down shift it into 2ond and it doesn't go when I shift it, it seems to go whenever it wants to. Then if I manually shift it down into first, it seems to jerk back and forth by itself...:nono:

So, my question is: Is there some kind of adjustment or something up on the head that the F-mech could have mal-adjusted that I could work on myself, or do y'all think I need to take it to a tranny shop??

Sorry for the long-winded story, and thanks for your thoughts...

Doug

As was stated in your last thread, you really should be working on this car yourself. If you aren't capable of doing the work yourself, I'm sure that there are plenty of people on the forum close by who are capable and have the proper tools and probably have done this before.

Not to mention they won't treat your car like just another car. The mechanic you go to is by no means an enthusiast. We are.

To answer your shifting question, I don't honestly know. The only cable that goes to the trans that he would have had to disconnect would be the "kickdown" cable, which attaches to the throttle bracketry, but that doesn't sound like the issue here.

I am going to change out the oil sensor myself, and I should be able to do most of the small projects myself too, such as an adjustment of something that I could do. Pulling a head etc. is a little beyond my desire or abilities at this point in time... I would like to keep it to the point of if I can do it in a couple of hours, then I should be up to task, a multi day deal...meh
But, I'm hoping somebody in here knows a little bit about the old auto tranny...!!

No mechanic is ever going to touch my car EVER again unless he/she is a trusted enthusiast. You are in SoCal, DriftMotion is down there. Have them take a look at your car if you absolutely need a mechanic.

Aaron is about 2 hours away from me, I wish he was closer...

So anyways, here is the latest on my car. So I take it to the one guy I do trust to check out my rotors and front brakes as the car was shaking with high speed braking. We get it up on the lift, and I see an electrical connector just hanging there... This is what the f-ing mech leaves me. Probably has something to do with no oil pressure guage?

Any ways we didn't have time to try to track it down yet, but now that I have nice new brakes and rotors up front, the shaking is gone!

Hopefully our weather clears up next week and I can try to track that loose wire down. I would take it to the f-ing mech, but it don't trust his a$$ any longer...

First thing, if you like your transmission leave it in D, you can downshift with the gas pedal. (the conditions you describe may be damage from manually shifting your AUTO) you have an automatic deal with it (or destroy it, either way is ok with me)

the connector you found, was it single wire, spade connector?
on the exhaust side?
did it have a big rubber boot?

I brought my car to a trannie mechanic, and he replaced a sensor. After a couple of days later I had the same problem again, he looks at it again, and he says, It's the wiring harness and not your sensor. he gave me a full refund and I kept the new part. How many mechanics you know that will admit that he's wrong, and issue a refund. Instead of saying "hey you would have needed it any way in about a week." That's what I call Honesty and fair service. Yeah sure he made an honest mistake but at least he didn't try to sell me something that wasn't right.

"All about transmissions" is the name of the shop. Ventura,CA

Complete myth.
