I've been planning to run that Greddy relief valve from the get-go ;) When running elevated boost pressures, I have no intentions of allowing a boost spike to get away from me.

The GReddy works perfectly with those manifolds... You need to remember that the W/G exit is coming from the shorter width side than the longer... so there's no need to rotate the flange on the SSAC replica manifolds.

I cut off my 50mm Greddy flange and put a F38 Tial 2 bolt flange on.

FWIW... the 50mm HKS clone wastegate springs fatigue... IE getting weaker with the more heat cycles it goes through.

Go TiAL and never look back. :-D

^ that's why you have to get the real HKS units. :)

well if thats the case then why not get an ebay HKS WG and then by a real HKS replacement spring??? Done...perfect gate

my vote is TiAL tho. i have only opened my tial 3 times :( but it is AWESOME!

My HKS standard wastegate is as old as dirt and it works perfect. It actually held boost more prdictably than my Tial 44, but that could be due to the different manifold I had on. I can't imagine how those Chineese wastegates are gong to hold up to extreme heat over time. Very scary.

The more boost you intend to run the smaller the gate you can use.
(it's a bit counterintuitive)

Is there any drawbacks to having a larger wastegate in high boost applications? This would probably make more sense for the guys who plan to work their way up the turbo ladder (if it is possible).

I come from a land down under
SB: Not really it just means the valve opens less to control the boost so it may miss the target Psi and you don't get a nice smooth transition.

ie: Nail it 20 Psi target 18>19>20 Gate opens >16171819>20 instead of 18>19>20>20>20 ;)

Sorry to bump an old post, been searching for info on the ebay WG as mine is leaking at idle right now and saw this. Can you clarify? I can't run a dump tube with the ebay WG because of the orientation of the flange, I didn't follow what you were saying about using the Greddy. Thanks!

Leaking at idle: You probably didn't get/install the flange with the raised lip: (Fire ring flange? I dunno.)

What I was saying is the GReddy 4-bolt wastegates have a different exit than the HKS.

You can see the dump exit is on the shorter width, vs the HKS which is on its perpendicular.

Yea, I just realized that I put the metal gasket between the flange with the raised lip and the WG instead of the manifold and the flange with the lip.

The routing of the dump pipe is much better with that greddy WG, wonder how long until there's knockoffs for cheapskates like me :biglaugh:

I'm using the same GReddy set up that Brent has pictured here. Works flawlessly.

That's Duane's old engine.

I use TiAL products.

Ahh! Either way it's a proven gate and is stiil working great for me after all these years.
I know that the Tial stuff is excellent quality but I'm using a couple of Turbosmart 55mil gates on my other car at the moment.

If you think about it, the way the Ebay manifold positions the wastegate.. The spring is the last thing to get hot..

That being said, I tore mine down, cleaned it up with the die grinder, and thermal coated the cast iron housing, also polished the shaft, and re-assembled with high temp anti sieze compound.. Tested it with compressed air, it works fine, no sticking, and MUCH better than the internal gate on the bolt on T4 that I had.

I did have to cut and re-position the flange, and I also moved it up slightly to gain ground clearance. There is not a whole lot of room down there when you have wrapped 3" ID pipe.. In fact, it only fits one way, and one way only. (And it took me three attempts to get it perfect.. Easy tack welds, removed, and moved, untill it was right where I wanted it..

I also have the oil system from hell on my car, so that does not help either.. AN10 hoses are running around just infront of this area, as is the one way check valve, and T fitting etc... Plus a AN4 feed line off the main galley plug to the bypass filter...

It has no room for more stuff.

No photos however.

the GReddy wastegates are EXPENSIVE compared to tial though...

Feel kinda silly putting a $600+ wastegate on a $200 manifold...

My brother has had a few ebay wastegates on a few different cars and has ran into no trouble other than crappy wastegate springs that it comes with (not breaking but low psi springs) but not like they are expensive or anything. There's too much "I hear" and "my friend" shit on ebay wastegates, if someone with first hand experience chimes in maybe you should change your mind but till then, there's nothing wrong with an ebay gate for your setup as long as you don't plan on running a ton of boost through it, but like someone said even the real ones can go bad, and I support this myself even hating cheap mk3 owners, I run a true Greddy wastegate but I still support this wastegate!
