Expensive horsepowerfreaks shipping?

i was about to order some parts when i got hit with an 18$ shipping fee for ground service, for some small parts. i mean come on i understand shipping isnt cheap but almost 20 bucks for a thermostat and radiator cap?

those parts would fit in a USPS priority mail flat rate box and cost way less and get here alot faster.

While this does seem a little high, you have to understand that shipping supplies do cost money. That is unless you use free USPS boxes. Many ebay sellers get that free box, and throw your part in with no packing to protect it. Do you want this?

Also, shipping for a company has some differences. Most companies have a per box charge, that covers their costs of supplies, and their paid manpower. They may also have a daily pick up. That makes it not feasible for them to send paid manpower to the post office.

Many people think of nothing but the cost of postage only. Companies would go bankrupt if they worked like that with a high volume. My company spends nearly $1000 a month on shipping supplies alone. And NO, we are not a huge company........just a 7 man operation.

Most larger companies do not like to send anything usps. For one there is no tracking number. Second, most companies have their shipping department set up for one or two carriers with usps the last option. 18.00 does sound a little high for ground, I can send a box of ARP studs accross the country by fed ex for 11-12.00. Much heavier than your shipment would be. Also, most important, were you ordering over the phone or on their website? On most companies websites, the shipping calculator is very broad and does not have enough of a database to put an exact shipping charge on an order. 18.00 would coover many diffrent items and that is just how automated shipping fee calculators work.

Well I will shed some light on this for you. I am a Fed Ex Driver and a repeat customer of HPF .HPF DOES NOT establish the shipping costs. That would be Fed Ex .HPF has a contract with Fed Ex for daily pick ups of which the Driver who is an independent contractor for Fed Ex gets paid a $1.25 per box and a fuel surcharge . Then the package gets transfered from his/her truck to another truck buy a employee who needs to be paid on a belt that needs to be paid for . Once on that truck which gets paid a $1.25per box and fuel shurcharge. It gets shipped to the nearest therminal to the delivery address. Gets loaded onto a local ground truck who's driver gets paid $1.16 to deliver it to you . I work for the company and I paid nearly $100.00 for a fluidyne rad to be overnighted to me and I live 300 miles away from HPF . NOW as far as HPF and their shipping costs I do a daily pick up at a greenhouse on 400 to 600 boxes a day five days a week . I guess moral of the story is don't wanna pay shipping go get it your self which do you think is cheaper?

good explanations, still just seems high to me. ive ordered and have sent many things over the years. i also work for UPS and know the costs of things. i fully understand shipping supplies and all that, however just reminds me of ebay these days. low prices followed by huge 'handling' fees.

i was using the onling quote maybe if i call id get a cheaper rate for ground.

maybe im just spoiled with places like Amazon.com always giving free shipping lol. either way i despise fedex, no thing to do with me working for ups. just have never had good luck with fedex, they seem over priced and unorganized to me.

i just shipped 2 turbos to mdc for less than $30..... UPS, nacgodoches tx to indy....$18 seems high but what are ya gonna do about it {shrug}

I work for UPS as well as the other guy who shed some light in this thread

Boxes cost money
Bubble wrap costs money
Peanuts cost money
Shippign costs a fair amount
Paying someone to package and ship it cost money

ive always gone and picked up my items at hpf. they tried shipping me some of my stuff once. pist me off. it was actualy my head gasket they shipped to me cause it was taking awhile to get in.

took me by surprize when i found out they ship them in 2 peices of wood

Look at the TOTAL price with shipping and compare. The guy who said FedEx sets the prices and HPF has no control over it is incorrect. FedEx might set their shipping price, but I can configure the website to add a set dollar amount to each sale, or a percentage of the sale, or both. Or I can pad the weight of all the items (eg: bill 5lbs for a 1lb item) I can lower my parts and prices and raise the shipping cost to cover it. It's not like this is anything new, and it's not even wrong to do. Shipping items does take way more time, money, and effort then most people think. I don't think HPF should ship for their actual cost, unless you want it wrapped in newspaper with no box or something.

You are right about that, that was what my post was all about. Automated shipping calculators on websites are not intended to give actual price on every item. They give a price on a base line of weight and size that the owners sets in the calculator. The price for a certain range of size and weight is ment to cover a bunch of diffrent parts, not just one. Fed ex never controls the shipping cost for a seller. When I sell something, I say it will cost 15 bucks to ship, it may cost me 10 it may cost me 20, but I charge 15. Untill you own a business that ships a lot of things, it will be hard to understand. A lot of time is spent on packaging and packing supplies. Don't think for one second that places with free shipping doesn't have the shipping cost built into the cost of the item. I sell tens of thosands of dollars of nx nitrous kits on e-bay with free shipping, believe me!, the cost of shipping a 15 lb nitrous kit is built right into the cost of the item.

all in all, i refuse to buy from them. Their shipping prices are ridiculously high. Yes other companies have their shipping prices included in the cost of the item when they say "free shipping", but their prices still fall below horsepowerfreak's prices excluding shipping lol. Its hilarious, ive done the math you save TONS of money not shopping there, especially if you are from Canada buying from the states. I compared something I bought from suprasport to horsepowerfreaks, in the end i saved over a hundred bucks for a few hundred dollar item.
