Exhaust pipe

So i have a 3inch down pipe and a 5 inch back box already on the car and i'v been quoted £120 for a 2.5 inch stainless steel exhaust pipe straight from the downpipe to the back box. (no cat laws in uk for pre 92 woop) just wondering if this would give me a good power gain aspecially for the price and if its worth it. just looking for opinions .

Is a back box a muffler? Eliminating your cats will definitely help, but if 3" isn't too much more I would recommend that. Why bottleneck your exhaust after the downpipe? You might want to throw a resonator in there too, it won't sound as harsh IMO.
