He already helicoiled them so unless the head is super soft i dont see why they would pull from the head.

Stock nuts dont have lock washers either so i dont see why that would be a issue.

Stock torque is 25ft lbs. I had 5 studs strip, helicoiled, and only torqued to 20ft lbs with stock exhaust nuts and in 25k zero problems.

Isn't stock torque 29 lbs?

Yeah i looked that up online and it said 29ftlbs and i looked it up the other day in my 88 repair manual when i was installing a exhaust manifold and it said 25ft lbs. Maybe there was a difference between the years as the cygnus site is for 89+.

Either way mine are torqued to 20ft lbs with a quality torque wrench and in over 2 years and 20-25k they have never backed out with stock nuts.

cheap out is one thing i am not trying to do, i just didnt know how much better the stockers were designed

thanks guys for the info

i will be putting in an order asap.

one more question
what about the turbo to manifold nuts? I reused the stock ones and they came loose. yes i am using all the turbo braces.

To me it sounds like your under torquing bolts. Its impossible to get a torque wrench in there with a socket unless you have a special tool. Ive resued those nuts to and just tightening with a 14mm wrench ive never had one of those come loose.

the motor and turbo are out so i can torque it correctly
i torqued mine at 30ft/lbs now that i remember.

what about the turbo to manifold nuts...they are just normal nuts?
mine have come loose even before i ever rebuilt the motor.

No there exhaust nuts not reg nuts you put on your fan clutch. Which i was referring to was the turbo the exhaust manifold nuts as unless you have to proper tools its next to impossible to torque the top nuts.

I have had the down pipe nuts come loose before but all i did was a lil loctite(which prolly burned off) and gave them a lil more that tight by hand with a 14mm wrench.
