I have a 87 supra 7mgte. the car set really low when I bought it. I knocked the "Exhaust" (just above the converter) off about quarter mile from house. drove it home, now it turns over and wont start. I'm not a tuner mechanic nor do I want to be. bought it for my daughter, none of her nuckle head boyfriends have a clue. will lack of exhaust keep it from starting or was this just a coincidence.

No, that's purely a coincidence. It will run without exhaust. We have a few members that drive around with open downpipes and it's very common for Supras used for dragracing that have an exhaust like that.

Something else got damaged.

The lack of backpressure can make it hard to start.. I once had an oldsmobile that had its exhaust knocked off right before the converter in december and it didn't start until it warmed up in march..

this is true in NA applications. on turbo cars, the turbo creates enough of a restriction that back pressure isnt a problem, as theres enough pre-turbo to make it happy. though the open exaust could be messing with the O2 sensor making it hard now that its cold, though i never had that problem with running a open downpipe.

sounds more like when it fell off it damaged something, so it start by jacking it up and checking out the underside for damage.

Engines do not need backpressure. Kill this myth already. If they needed backpressure, extractors would not work. Think about it.

Welcome to Supramania sir, you or your daughter has pretty good taste in cars. :)

That said, if you're not willing to fix the occasional issue with a Supra, you've either bought the wrong car, or are preparing yourself to spend a good chunk of money at random... these cars tend to be misused and abused, and often aren't maintained very well. Pictures of the car?
