well considering if you still live in cali. your not going to be able to get away with an aftermarket exhaust really. it might be to your benefit to run a cutout. me personally, i am going to run a full 4" on my project and be done with it.

I'm calling third, how is that possible? I know people who look the other way but you still have to show up and run it.

Depends on where the car is registered. Some areas use enhanced testing, some basic, some require basic testing only when the vehicle is first registered and thereafter only when sold. These designated "change of ownership" areas are zip code dependent and commonly in rural parts of the state:

It's your gum'mint at work. Since Cali folks allowed their politicos to get away with it no bitching is allowed...

its cool... i just register my vehicles at my fathers house in lake county california and according to lake county, you have to smog your vehicle once, during the change of ownership.

Better hope they don't find out you have a permanent address elsewhere. The law is specific about that.

Btw, smog is about to get worse for those who must do it. Effective 1 November 2007 vehicle model years from 1976 to 1995 will require low pressure testing of the EVAP system. Other than the gas cap test EVAP was a visual check item in the past. Since the equipment for this test costs about $3000 expect the price for a smog check to increase. Expect lots of failures too.
