excessive oil pressure

I finally finished my install of the motor and now im to fixing the leaks. i have a small coolant leak that is an easy fix. but i got into my car after tuning and the oil pressure gauge was all the way up but there was no blown seal. I know for a fact if the pressure was that high the filter would have poped the o ring. What are the chances of the gauge being bad or the pressure sending unit? also just pulled the oil pump and checked the relief vavle and it slid into the hole under its own weight.

Use a mechanical oil pressure gauge in the car one time to see if your gauges are just off after you've taken the needles out of the gauges when putting the face plates on.

That's why I don't like doing that.

That drawing is misleading in that the symbol implies a resistance based sender. In reality that's not the case.

Test procedures are in the service manual but a quick gage and wiring check is to remove the wire from the sender to see if the gage remains at zero with the engine running. Ground the wire with the engine off to make the gage go to max. Don't leave it grounded for any longer that what it takes to make that happen though or you'll be buying a new gage.

If the gage responds the sender may be bad and will need further testing as per the manual or using a multimeter to see if it's pulsing.

Max on the the gage would indicate very fast pulsing (unlikely due to how the sender works) or a stuck contact. If fact you might try giving it a slight rap before trying the other tests. Frankly I doubt it's the sender but hey, I've been wrong before.
