That's a great idea...make it as cheap as possible so it will look good and not do squat. Personally, I could care less if the "masses" can afford a quality fabrication that affords the protection of the stock part in a crash. If you don't have the $$$ to play, get another car.

The sarcasm isn't needed. SupraPowaz simply brought up a good point to consider for anyone who is thinking about producing and selling a product. Also, I believe you were trying to say "I COULDN'T care less".

The stock intercooler and piping is not very heavy but of course, the LS1 doesn't have an intercooler at all. Lets not forget anyone who makes power with a 7M uses a heavier intercooler and piping.

This. I don't give a purple poop how much something costs, so long as the quality is there. :)

Back in 2004, at the Texas Supra Nationals, there was a fender bender outside of the Texas World Speedway.

There was a MKIII (with similar "metal removal" as what you decribe) that rear ended a MKIV. This was a very low speed accident. The MKIV had some chipped paint on the bumper.

Mike

wasn't that SupraTrey's old car? :)

Anyway.

For 6 lbs of stuff,

I can give you three things that will remove 50+ lbs worth of copper and plastic

The enitre supra electrical system. Chuck it. That means the front electrical harness, main cabin and rear cabin harness. Included in those harness are the junction boxes, fuse and relay boxes, connectors etc.

Swap in one of the fancy lightweight digital fuse boxes from any of the companies that I posted in the standalone forum and call it a day. You will be ahead weight wise by nearly 60 lbs when it is all said and done.

Re-reading this thread, I am not seeing the usefulness of this thread save perhaps on how to commit suicde in a supra...................

Actually, I have already removed the entire Supra electrical system and replaced it with my own minimized version (power windows, lights, instrument cluster and engine controls). I am just considering my options as far as removing weight easily and cheap.

These words don't belong in a MK3 owners vocabulary.

But cheap and easy are two of my favorite words. And rewiring the car is a cheap and easy way to lose some weight. There's also a ton of other cheap and easy ways to lose weight with a supra. But not everything is cheap and easy. Some things shouldn't be cheap and easy, they're going to hard and complex.

But custom subframes and such like that aren't cheap or easy. Well cost wise, they're relatively cheap unless you include labor which isn't easy. Well the labor is easy, but the design work isn't easy. And unless you've gone a lot further with the car, subframes should be last on the list just because of how not cheap or easy they are. There's too much other cheap and easy stuff to do before getting into something not cheap and easy like that.

Cheap and easy.

If you want to save weight get lighter rims and tires, get aluminum brake calipers and rotors with aluminum hats. You'll gain performance and handling without sacrificing anything at all.

I like this idea, and if you think about a lot of performance parts are lighter:
- Wheels, tires
- BBK
- Tubular manifolds
- Intercooler Piping
- Aluminum radiator
- Exhaust
- FFIM
- Battery
- Aluminum pulleys

etc.

Aluminium hats on the same size rotors save 1Kg.
(weighed mine last night)

Keep an eye on my thread for the next month or so I'm about to get a bit serious about this issue ;)

I've cut said support out. It weighed no more than 10 lbs.

That said, it's your car, do what makes you happy.
