Um... Yes, well over 700. It can reach temps close to 2x that.

So what is the optimal temp? With pyrometer installed in turbo inlet am seeing 1,300 to 1,400 deg F on hard accel. Have read that that kind of temp definately is max and getting unsafe. Optimal is 1,100 to 1,200? Car is modified as listed below and running well. Just turned 13.68 in quarter couple weekends ago and still running strong. Is this thing about to melt down or is this kind of exhaust temp usual? Any insight would be very useful and hopefully comforting.

'89 T w/
- Fresh rebuild incl JE pistons and rings
- MHG w/ ARP studs
- Hard intercooler piping with GReddy blow off
- Lexus AFM
- Majestic modified turbo (57 trim)
- 3" DP empty cat to straight duals, one each side in front of wheels (no mufs)

your EGT probe is supposed to be in the manifold, not the elbow..... At least that is what I've always heard. The temp is supposed to actually be higher after turbo

Randy, so good to see you on SM, it's Gus from MIR. did alittle searching around and found this thread:
http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8663&highlight=exhaust+temp

remember that the elbow will be much cooler than where you have your EGT(like up to 800 degrees cooler) because some of the heat energy in the exhaust goes to spinning the turbine. and yet another thing i forgot to mention when we were talking at MIR:

my bible on all thing cars and turbos.

i believe the temp is actually suppose to be cooler after the turbo.
So best mounting spot is cylinder # 6, hottest runner.
