for $ 30,000 it should be fast.

Price doesn't have to dictate whether or not it should be fast.

The A70 was in that 25-30k range new and it did 14-15s..

I'm not all that concerned with entry price of the car when comparing performance. I'm more concerned with price to mod and potential of a car. The EVO definately has serious potential when lightly modded in all aspects of performance.

The one's I've raced they were always pretty strong from a stop(even if the driver sucked) but I was able to make it up pretty quick after 1st gear.

The other ones I've seen at highway speeds never did that well. AWD isn't the best for top end runs, so those weren't too hard.

Overall, I wouldn't mind driving one. I just don't like the way they look. Supra will always win in that category. ;]

No it doesnt exactly but if your paying 30k wouldnt you expect your vehicle to be able to get out of its own way and be quick about it.

For its time yes it was.

If you have any concern for price to mod then you should have concern about entry price on the vehicle. Why would you pay X amount more just because the mods are cheaper for it, when you can get a different vehicle cheaper and make more power.

What I'm getting at for a 4cyl in a mitsu that costs 30k it sure as hell better be able to put some numbers down, and it does. Im not taking that away from the EVO, its one hell of a machine.

wait wait wait. it dosnt take 1k to put a healthy mkiii in the 13s. keep in mind im assuming all things equal, both cars have healthy motors.

it only takes some washers and 20 minutes to remove your cat back and a 7m mkiii can do 13s at the track no problem.

Imma be honest...I was thinking about getting a Mirage and do the conversion (The Evo motors drop right in...now getting everything else right is a whole different box of 64 count crayons). But then I start to add up everything; way too much. I'm already poor..:nono:

You guys seen the Evo X MR concept? I was just looking at it in a Motor Trend I have and it is so much meaner looking. I wouldn't spend the money on one though.

how many of you know what an eclipse all wheel drive is? the evo's are eclipses with the motor turned 180deg. and a different tranny so they're not as impressive to me since all the tech for them has been around for quite a few years.

They've been around in the 1G eclipse since '89...

AWD cars will always have a better 1/4 mile time with comparable HP to a RWD car with the same driver doing a pass in either one (competent driver mind you).

Their good cars from a stop, but the supra is in a completely different category, so comparisons are hard to make...

you forgot that the evo has the 16g and the gsx has a 14b. the ecu is different. there isn't as much of a fear of crankwalk (fucking 7 bolts LOL), they look nicer, has 4 doors.

IIRC the ports in the motors are also different.

there are more differences.

An EVO is not a DSM. You lump them together because they have the same engine? They're not the same car. The EVO has been in production for about 15 years and has always been a strong and capable performance car that excels at the dragstrip and the roadcourse. The DSMs we got here are hardly the same car the EVO was/is. The 4G63 in the DSMs peaked at 210hp. The latest EVOs are pushing 286hp stock. The EVO I had more hp than any DSM at about 250hp.

How you determine an EVO IX is not impressive because it has the same engine and being AWD like a DSM, I am not really sure. You are very mistaken if you compare an 03+ EVO to a DSM.

Let's not forget the EVO's success in WRC and other racing leagues.

Not to mention the FQ EVO models that were over 400hp...
