I was wondering if anyone has ever swaped a smaller radiator (aftermarket) onto there supra before. One off of a honda of that sort to free up room in the engine bay? How bad do you think it woul have with cooling issues? Running a non watercooled turbocharger. This is just an idea im throwing out here so dont flame me for it please lol.

I come from a land down under
In that case you might get away with it.

If it were a DD fast toy it's another matter as it would need the extra capacity for traffic/AC use and so on.

How small you can go is a whole different kettleOfish though ;)

3.0L at xxxrwhp will need xx cooling there's no way around this fact, it can be worked out on paper but I always go for Maxx cooling capacity on whatever I build to the point I used to run 2 x V8 Rads in series in my old twin turbo 240z.

OK
if its just for quick runs and not constant driving it should be okay, but it will get hot after a while cuz the radiator is insufficent

low 11 high 10 second weekend car? Im just wondering how well it will be able to cool still.
do you have a stock radiator on your car? if so i think a triple core honda radiator should be fine.

im a pretty big honda guy,

but i would be safe and either work it out on paper, or you could just say screw it and try it

Right now i have no radiator. I was runing a stock radiator before i took the car down for a buildup. It never had overheating problems before and it ran high 11's.

Smaller... surface area? The stocker is already plenty thin and light weight... then again I don't quite understand what you are mounting in the other free 50% once you put your honduh radiator in.

Either way, for a car that is barely run long enough to create any heat you could get away with pretty much nothing I would think.

We don't even do this in 7 sec 1/4 mile Pro Street Tire cars...

I just can't see it being worth it at any level.

well i doubt im doing it on my mkiii, but im building a side project and need to fit a smaller radiator on an AE86 because the 7m barely fits in the bay as it is. Its been done before but im wondering if it will still cool efficently. Motors only going to put out about 275whp. But in an AE86 that should be enough to crack into the low 12's.

pro drag cars dont run radiators at all, also fill the water jackets up with block filler.......

if its a strip car that will start, idle for a few minutes, make a pass, and shut down, i dont see a problem with it, any amount of driving on streets for longer then 10 minutes id have at least a stocker......

That's not 100% true. About 1/2 of the pro race classes require radiators. We had to have one in NDRA Pro Street Tire.

Top Fuel & Funny car are exceptions.

And the alky guys don't really need radiators, cool running bastards...

yea i was talking about the top fuel and funny car, but ive definatly herd of regular rase gas engines running no radiator because the engine just doesnt have enough running time to heat up enough to hurt anything.

:evil2: :evil2: :evil2:

I have this one with a 14x17 core, and it's probably gonna be more than i need for the drag car...

If there is any chance of it being driven on the street, i do not think its a good idea to go with anything smaller than stock for sure.....
