Ever heard of removing an engine without draining the oil from it?

Is this possible? I went to go look at a 7mgte the other day, looked a lil rough around the edges, 90,000 on motor with mhg and arp bolts and 120,000 on the ct-26. He told me that his first two 7m he spun a bearing by not watching the oil level and this engine he assured me that every week he would check the oil. He told me that i could go and check it now. So that concluded that he removed the motor without draining the oil. Who does that? Im starting to think that he just added some oil to the motor after it was out the car to try and persuade the future buyer that he keep the motor in good condition and he prolly spun another bearing again.

i don't know if there's anything wrong with leaving the oil in. i don't drain it till it's on the engine stand.

I've seen it plenty of times. Shops will often have a plug for the tranny tailshaft, too, so they don't have to drain that either.

Personally, though, with my labor force of ONE, I like to get as much weight off it I can, so I drain everything.

Thanks I just thought that for the most part that ppl drain the oil out before lifting the motor out but I guess that it's possible to live it in there. Ill check to see if he left the oil cooler attached when pulling the motor. I just don't know about this seller, its seems as if something is shady about this person. Especially since he told me he spun bearings in 2 different 7m from running low on oil. I wish i was able to see and hear the engine in the car before he pulled it out.

I didnt have to drain mine. The 7M did a fine job of doing it for me by blowing it everwhere when it blew.

I drained mine outside of the car, but the tranny I drained prior. I really don't see what the big deal would be. Anyway, about the motor...Always assume a used 7M has a BHG or Rod Knock. Unless you know the engine, and apparently you don't, rebuild it and give yourself that piece of mind.

I drain all fluids prior to removing a motor, just so I don't have to deal with the mess.

Pull the plugs, and see how easy it turns. It should turn smooth and easy, with a ratchet and socket on the crank pulley bolt. If it's stiff, chances are it has issues. As mentioned before, the best way is to pull the pan, and see what's in it.
