The very first one would have been bad if I hadn't been so happy (day after I got the car). Replacing the valve cover gaskets while it was 3* and snowing was pretty shitty. Other than that not really, I don't mind working on the Supra.

Yall sound like a bunch of whiners to me! I've never had a bad day, just a day that stuff breaks when your fixing one other thing, and days where things fall on you or you get crushed knuckles or bruised ribs, or a broken toe, or a dislocated finger or large cuts that get packed with grease, oil, and metal shavings....yep never a bad day working on the supra :p

well damn, not really a bad day working on the supra, but more like a bad night driving it, I was going to a local car meet that happens every friday here in the desert and what do you know, my clutch starts slipping, booya, next thing you know im getting towed home by AAA, and I ened up at the gas station across the street from the meet :( pretty crappy night. So i took the tranny off, actually came off smoothly which has never happens for me ha, basically all the clutch material feel out the tranny vents and the clutch plate was down to the metal, i figured a faulty pressure plate and launches/burnouts contributed to this mass failure ha, but gotta pay to play so I got a stage 2 kit on the way, snaps. thought id share

A year or so ago this is how it went:

Installed newly built motor, went to the local drags and blew the trans.

A couple of weeks later...installed newly built trans, and went back to the local drags...blew up the motor.
(Due to overeagerness and detonation, I hadn't got the tune right.)

Needless to say pulling the motor and trans the second time in as many weeks was "not a good day working on the Supra".

alright.....i got blow motor syndrome as well....rebuilt motor from ground up (had my machinest check rods) 10 minutes after driving it, rod flies out motor.....second rebuild, oil pressure sending unit was on the fritz telling me that i had good oil pressure when i didnt, rodknock 2 weeks after driving, 3rd rebuild, running great, broke it in properly, hit 150 miles retorqued it, went inside to get my cell phone, came outside and my car was gone.....oh and i had to do my rebuids in this damn 115* arizona sun....never got it back, but did get another supa that was ten times better...just got done with that rebuild!!

That and I cant get any money, being a college sopho starting in August, and a white straight male at that (they dont make scholarships for my kind). So I'm in the process of taking out a pretty big loan and hopefully finishing the Supra before I get to school.
Seriously? I had you pegged as my age, ~40. I guess you post far in advance of your years. :)

I've had bad days working on the Supra, sure... but I don't remember most of them, instead, I remember the good times cruising, racing at the strip, and so on.

The one that comes to mind is from several years ago, I was trying to drop the rear pumpkin on one of my Mk2s because it was toasted. Some of those bolts were on there fuk'ntight. One in particular was being obstinate above and beyond the call of duty. I've got good leverage, and I'm putting every ounce of muscle I have into it when it lets go... and lets my right hand hammer into the frame with all my strength.

I alternately screamed in anger and cried in pain for ~5 minutes before I could examine the hand. Nearly tore the nail off my thumb from the impact, lost a bunch of skin and a crapload of blood. To this day, that thumbnail grows with a flat spot in the middle and a few odd ridges where I hammered the growth plate at the base.

Oh, and the worst was yet to come. I had to wash my hand with varsol to get all the gear oil and other gunk off it. Just think - varsol on open wound, including the soft meaty part under your thumbnail. Ranks up there with surgery minus the anesthetic.

No sir, hence my title. I never really had a "ricer phase," I've been all about function since day one. I "get it" and look past most of what most people go apeshit about and look at it from a different perspective. I dont need decades of experience to figure things out; just a few years is enough when you are willing to learn.

I will say that many many mediocre days of working on the Supra can be bypassed or made much better by reading the forums and getting as much info as you can before you start to do something. I'm still planning on making that comprehensive FAQ thing that has all of that in one spot to answer every question you could ever have, but until then I'll just store it in my brain.

I really really need to start on it though.

Or one to few.

I'm shocked at some of the shit-boxes I see, even (especially) at the drags. Grown men who completely mickey mouse everything. Last year at Irwindale raceway I was checking out this nice looking '65 vette, and I look at the dash and it's a rat's nest of multi-colored wires. And this thing has like $15k worth of paint on it, as well as every trick piece of equipment you can buy. Unfortunately everything was hung together like one of Jerry's Kids put it together. I'd be ashamed to be seen with it. Lot's of money, no dedication to doing things right. I guess you can't buy integrity.

Replacing calipers, rotors, and pads out by the curb (no garage) in February in 20 degree weather. Maybe I'm a pussy, but I just hate sitting my ass in the cold and wind working on a car, I'd rather shovel snow. I live for May-Oct.
