while we're all on the subject of computers and laptops, etc...

i'll probably be going back to college NEXT september, but i'd like to get myself a nice little laptop to do some datalogging on, etc.. for my maft pro unit. anyone got any suggestions? i

it has to be good for school, fast, and have lots of memory. :)

I like the dell XPS, but we just ordered a new dell Latitude D820 for our company and it has 1 gig of ram and 80 gig HD. It's got the AMD dual processor, and 256 video card. I think we got it for $1400, but I can't remember excactly how much we paid.

Edit: It's upgradable to 120 gig HD and 4 gig ram. Wow that's as much ram space as there is HD space on the Comps I pictured. Technology is amazing.

Nice compucker Allan!!! I wish I had it.
I'm running a 3 year old Averatec laptop with a hacked version Windows XP with service pack 3. I'm getting a 300gb external hard drive soon. I need it because I do alot of video editting.

Isn't Averatec the comps that Walmart and Sam's Clubs sells? But if you've had for 3 years I guess it's holding up pretty well. But 2 of mine have lasted over 10 yrs:biglaugh: (The two pictured happen to be them)

The video card sucks, the internal DVD drive died, and I've spilled beer on it two times (I let it dry and it worked fine after) but besides that it runs nice!!!!
Heres a pic but its a little dark....

Im sticking with my 3000+ chip for now and get a dual core in a few months perhaps and pick up a few more drives maybe another card and make it SLI

As for thermaltake... there PSU's only lasted me a year at most i highly suggest PC power & cooling units AWESOME

yeah, that's why i'm probably gonna use them for cases and that's about it. I was thinking about going for the Thermaltake Shark case, but I wasn't sure if it would be watercool-ready whenever I feel like throwing it in there, so I decided on the Armor case instead. Thermaltake's site said it is, but newegg's description said it's only set up for Thermaltake's watercooling system which I heard sux.

I'm thinking about going with a Sparkle Power 650W PSU, but I'm not sure if that's gonna be overkill for now and if it would cause problems on a "mild" set-up. I s there such a thing as too much power when it comes to comps?

If you get your comp up and running before I do, lemme know how that goes after about a week from the break-in period. I use www.ocforums.com on info about the A8N32 and all people are pretty much saying is how it runs a bit hotter than most do, and it not running stable with certain memory.
