Hi I am new to the whole tuning engine thing. I was wondering if or how I could mod some stock parts on my 7MGTE, to gain more power without wrecking anything (or spending very much). I'm almost positive there is something I can do, I'm just not sure what. If someone could help me out with some tips or tircks that would be great.
Thanks

Raise the boost. You can shim the wastegate to do this, not exactly sure how you shim it though. But you will hit Fuel cut at about 10-12 PSI. Other than that, not much you can do.

I'm assuming you are completely stock. Has the HG been re-torqued?

No it has not. Just recently got another supra nicer than the one I had. I'm going to swap out the bad parts for the good ones off the other car. Also do a trans swap from auto to 5speed.

You're rocking a stock headgasket so raising boost will probably blow it soon enough...

But to shim the waste gate....you unbolt the gate actuator "two bolts" and slip a washer between the compressor and the actator bracket...washer for each hole...one washer at a time to reach target boost....

Or buy a manual boost controler...

The biggiest performance gain you'll get is getting a full 3" exhaust that replaces the factory cast iron turbo elbow...this generally cost about $1000 total unless you buy used stuff.

I have a full 2.5" exhaust with no converter to put on the car already. does it pay to put an intake on or is it a waste?

Thats right around what I spent. Never regreted it despite the rest of the car being a shitshow, now it just sits in my driveway. Plan to make a comeback at some point but thats a whole nother story. Point is buy a nice exhaust setup, you wont regret it.

It's not the cat that makes a big difference...it's the iron elbow bolted to the turbo that sucks....that alone will raise boost...and 2.5" exhaust is only 1/4" bigger than stock so you won't get much gains with it.

I think that explains why I couldn't find where those washers went, lol.

Edit: +1 on a BHG, that's why I asked.

Would I get any more power by putting on a bigger exhaust?
Bigger than 3"?

Not much unless you get a good turbo downpipe to complete the system...a catback won't give you much power but a full turbo back 3" exhaust has been dyno proven to average an extra 30hp by itself...

The downpipe is pretty much the most important part on the exhaust system...it's what makes or breaks power...this is my downpipe (BIC divorced downpipe)

expect to pay about $450 for one...not cheap but work great and sound even more badass.

Ya I kinda had a feeling that it would cost some money to make more power. The exhaust that I have comes right off of the cast elbow

You won't see much gain from that as exhaust is only going to flow as much as the smallest exhaust restriction will flow.....that elbow is what sucks....next inline is the stock turbo as our motors out flow and breath the ct26.

Is there a bigger turbo that will bolt up with any modification?

There are a few that bolt up with minor mods yes but they all cost about $1000+. Now you can bolt these turbos on and drive but they flow much more air and you'll fuel cut like a son of a bitch unless you mod everything else to handle the bigger turbo..

So far what I see is you want more power but don't want to do the research....son enjoy the car as it is and just maintain the car....take care of it as it's old and fix what's broke....replace hoses etc....while you do that keep reading the forum and learn some things! Your questions are so basic that if you don't already know the answers then you are not ready to turn up the boost....invest in a decent downpipe ($200) and a 3" exhaust and you'll notice a big change without having to turn up the boost...just slow your roll and take care of your supra
