Engine struggles after Lexus AFM/550cc installed...

Searched all 16 pages in here, and 15 pages in the General Discussions, still haven't found.

Installed the 550c injectors and Lexus AFM today (took my time with them). When I turned on the engine it struggles to stay on, the RPM needle would fluctuate, then engine dies. The only way for me to keep it running is to rev it up, but once I stop revving it'd struggle and dies. Test drove it for a little bit and noticed that my stock boost guage indicated at "0" (normally it would stay at "-4"). I could hear it spooling but guage stayed the same at "0". Car hesitates during punch.

I checked all my hoses and they seem to be right (will double check). I read the other similar thread about reseting my ECU (how do I properly go about it?). Any advice would be thankful.

I need it to be running normal again tomorrow so I can go back to TX!! :arcadefre

if your gauge is not reading than the plug is undone or more likely the vacuum line is loose. i would suggest turning your screw all the way in on your afm since you didnt say anything about a fuel pump or an afpr.

do you get any codes? check them before resetting the ecu. to reset you remove the EFI fuse, in fuse box near battery, for a minute.
AFM connector connected securely?
Did you use new insulators for injectors?
vacuum hose connected at back of intake?
re-check all electronic connectors and all vacuum hose connectors.
just some things to look at.

I missed a tiny hose line on the inner side of intake manifold (however I don't remember taken it off.), so I plugged that in and the turbo guage worked. Thanks

I haven't installed the Walbro fuel pump (and don't have an afpr), yet. Cannot do anything to that screw because there's no phillips/flathead patterns to screw.

ISNMS/GRIMJACK:
- I used the old electronics from my stock and double checked that the connector is secure.
- I didn't use any insulators (problem here?). Have had them order, will pick up later :).
- have not checked for codes...I don't know how to....but will do research. :)

Car still hesitates, but less than before that tiny hose was plugged in. Awaiting for the insulators, hope it'll fix the problem. Will keep update. Thank you's!

wait a minute...you're talking about those thick black rubber rings that wrap around the tip? If yes, then I do have them on.

Gone to different auto parts and inquired about these insulators but those guys had no idea what I was talking about. One place ordered 6 of those rubber rings (not o-rings), so I told them I have those already.

thats because there is a factor plug blocking off the screw. you need to drill it out, and pop it out with a screwdriver in order to see the screw:)

OK....

I got a code 31. Didn't know what it was at first, but I knew it has something to do with the air, because I triple checked everything else.

My instinct tells me I should replace the AFM electronics with the one from the Lexus AFM (after being wrong MANY times not trusting my instincts, I decided to trust it this time). Replaced stock electronic with the Lexus, and BAM....she started up nice and smooth - no misses, smooth and quiet. No codes this time. :eek:ffwall:

I thought we can't use the Lexus electronics?

True...true...

If i was you i would take it easy until you get everything else installed. AFPR and fuel pump. Its insurance for your engine. I wouldn't even boost, but thats me.

So are you saying if i put in the Lexus afm and 550 injectors i wouldn't have any problems boosting on my stock turbo. I'm getting the DDp in a few days so with just the afm and injectors would i hit FCO?
