engine starts but wont stay on

i just did a headgasket on my 94 sc300 with a 2jzge and put everything back together had the car at TDC and put the distributor back in all lined up with the timing lines on the distributor. the car wont stay on for more than like 2 seconds it starts revs to 3k rpms and dies. i have no idea what it could be we taped all the vacuum lines and all electrical so im pretty sure everythings hooked up please help!

Is your car throwing any codes and did you Make sure the crank gear was not damage missing tooth because if one tooth is damaged the crank ange position sensor won't read correctly. O yeah Is the crank gear markpointing straight up and alined with th dots because had he same issue with my gs300

when i put the car to TDC its lined up to 0 on the crank pulley and the cam gears line up to the line i made sure everything lined up. its not throwing a code im guessing its timing does anybody have pictures of the correct way to line up the distributor? thats the only thing i can think the car i can get it to stay on if i push on the gas a little but it runs really rough and doesnt sound right. its kind of making a noise that sounds like the secondary butterfly valve is like closeing its hard to explain the noise. and i can smell gas and under the hood it kinda smells like the engines working a little hard? im still thinking timing?
