so anyway i have a spare motor that i want to put up on my engine stand. but i cannot find the bolts anywhere in my stupid little city!

i know the size of the bolt is m10x1.25 and i need a length of atleast 100mm to thread about 1 inch into the engine ( i measured my stand and stuff)

i went to partsource, canadian tire, home depot, napa, home hardware, rona and none of them have it!!.. i called up Windsor Factory Supply which is a huge store that has a bunch of this kinda crap and they said they didnt have it either!! and that they dont stock it.. guy said "they usually have 1.5 ptich but no 1.25." soo i called up fastenal and they didnt have it.. but they said they could get it shipped it in 2 days.. then i asked if it was grade 8 and she said no its grade 5. i asked for grade 8 and she said "i'll have to look into it..because i am the only one in the office right now..so i'll give you a call back etc.."

edit: Do i neeedd to have grade 8? is grade 5 not enough?

anyway why the hell ear these bolts soo difficult :(

anyone have any other suggestions to look into?

grade 5 was fine for me. i used them to hold onto the engine for well over two months with no ill effects. keep in mind the entire engine was loading the bolts for about four days (two to disassemble and two to assemble)

for reference, a 5/16 grade 5 bolt (8mm) will have a tensile/breaking strength of 6950 lbs for fine thread, grade 8 in same size is 8700 lbs.

I got mine at Napa.. then again I know them and if I needed it then can order them too. If you go back maybe they will order them. Home Depot doesn't have anything for Metric items.

Call Fastenal. That's where I got mine. They're grade 8, M10 x 1.25 (thread size) x 80mm (bolt length). It's a bit of a drive for you, but there are 2 stores in London.

If I have to I will get you some, and ship them to you.

unless you can get it to me faster than wednesday morning at a price of around $1.50 per bolt and $8 shipping
then ya that would be great LOL (the above quote is what fastenal gave me for m10x1.25 100mm in length hex)

Can't the London store just ship them to you? : D Might be worth the wait, I am not sure if I have or can get 100mm, I can check in case I can, Sadly I here I don't measure things in ( Metric ) The U.S is pretty stupid. So I have to learn it myself more or less.

If you cut the mounting tabs on your engine stand shorter you can use factory transmission bolts. I do this on every engine stand I buy.

maybe you're confusing them with what you're asking.

there is no grade 8 metric.

grade 8.8 metric is roughly equivalent to imperial grade 5
grade 10.9 is equivalent to imperial grade 8

ok, contact an actual fastener supply business, not your local auto parts store. a fastener place can get you anything you need (except dichromate JIS plated bolts with captive washers, but thats a whole other issue)
