Okay, so I have a 7mgte, want to make sure of the year of the engine so I can proceed with buying a wiring harness and ecu, etc. The serial on the block is 7M0011936. Wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. Sorry for the stupid question. I did search the forum but was unable to find anything on this. thanks!

edit:Or does it matter what year the engine is as far as buying a wiring harness and ecu? I have an 86.5 N/a. Would I just need to get an 87 ecu/turbo wiring harness?

The year of the motor doesn't matter. Match the wiring harness to the year of your chassis. In your case, since you have an 86.5, you need to use an '87-88 Turbo ECU. (yellow plugs) And a wiring harness of the same year span. :) (again, yellow plugs)

If your motor is from an '89+ car, you will have to either de-pin a few connectors and swap them over, or cut/splice/solder/crimp the appropriate connectors on. In any case, it's easy, and they're all one-wire sensors. There are maybe 2-3 total.
