Finally I get the chance to work on my ride. Ok ok... no this isn't a question about how to pull the 7mgte motor... but does anyone know the total weight of the motor and tranny together? I'm questimating and don't want to use my old cherry picker on something thats going to be over 500lbs. ( had this hoist for 12yrs now). I have most items already off turbo, power steering pump, ac unit, intake manifold, various nuts and bolts. That should lighten the load alittle. Worse case is I'm gonna buy a new hoist.

I'm pulling my engine and trans together.

As long as the seals aren't leaking in your cherry picker, you should be fine.

And good idea on pulling trans with motor!! It baffles me why people would do it any other way! Saves you so much fucking headache!

Unless you have limited space and limited cherry picker.

I do believe "SOME" people on here pull their motor/tranny in and out over a lunch break like it was an oil change or something!:aigo:

...I won't mention any names... but the 7M is now a V8.;)

I wasn't talking about time it took. The two weeks was not a simple engine pull it was much much more.

I was talking about the space we did it in...

headache? unbolt 6 subframe bolts and lift the front end and slide out the motor.:icon_bigg

I think your forgetting strut mounts, brake lines, steering shaft... don't make it sound so easy.

any cherry picker should work for the 7m. I have seen a wide variety of hoists and never came across one that wouldn't handle it. Unless the pump or cylinder is pouring hydraulic oil all over the place i would say your fine. now i wouldn't leave it jacked up hanging there while you lay under it. but to pull it out should be no problem.

I would just pull it out with the trans, if you have a low ceiling, lower the car as much as you can once you get most everything unbolted. When you put the cherry picker on it put it on the chain favoring the front of the motor so it will come out on an angle and just have a friend pick up the tailshaft of the trans to clear the radiator support. That way you don't have to jack it so high.

well going ahead with it I got my motor out with the tranny. Looked very scary all the way up there.... but it was no problem on the hoist. This hoist has seen MANY 4cyc, but never a straight 6 with tranny. It came out good. Now... pulling the tranny revealed that the previous clutch job my dad had a shop do, all they did was replace the disc. This was 1.5yr ago. Dame... 800.00 for a disc with labor. They jacked my dad big time. He won't be happy since last I remember it was a clutch set, fluid, labor, and adjustment... we so he said it was.
