I'm currently rebuilding my motor, and have run into a minor question. Should I use a sealant of some sort on the timing case gaskets, and what kind should I use. I'm pretty sure I should, but I wanted to double check with you guys. I'll update this thread as I have more questions. As always, thanks for your help in advance.

Forget the stock gaskets for the covers and use fipg (toyota liquid gasket).. The factory gaskets aren't worth shit! Use fipg for everything that generally uses the thin paper gasket (oil pan, timing covers, etc)

I'm not talking about the timing covers, I'm talking about the actual timing case that bolts to the block and is behind the timing belt. And where can I get FPIG? Thanks.

What I do for the lower timing gasket is use the Toyota gasket, and they put a thin layer of " Good Stuff " on it. I have never had a leak yet. Some will say it does not work, but I do what I do and it seems to work great.

Toyota gaskets are the best you can get there is nothing better, and the only other kind that compares to it are Felpro gaskets.

Yes I am talking about the cover that has the water pump housing and bolts to the block...personally I'd just use the liquid gasket "from toyota" and toss that thin piece of wax paper!

Toyota has fpig or fipg whatever the hell it's called.

I've used Permatex The Right Stuff gasket maker with good results, and if you don't have a Toyota dealer nearby, then it would be a good alternative to FIPG.
