Alrighty, looks like I'll be picking up a motor that needs rebuilt...so I figure all stuff that goes old over time needs replaced, upgrade any fuel and oil system, and beefing up pistons/rods is in order. In all due respect to Jon, he says I should leave it to the pro's and Jeff tends to the DIY side of this question I have, which is to rebuild myself or not. Here's where you guys come in....to rebuild my self or take it to the pro's?

Take it to the pros and dont be a cheap ass.

Ill be the first to say them:
Do it once, do it right.
If you cant afford to do it right, how can you afford to do it again?
cheap,fast, reliable, pick two.

And no, there isn't an easy way to do bearings.

And yes, yes I am.

if you got some time, take it and do it yourself.
i've never done a rebuild before i've already changed all bearings, mic'd everything to make sure its all within spec, installed new pistons. now im waiting for a MHG to bolt the head back on....
go for it, just make sure you read, take your time, ask questions, and most importantly be ORGANIZED.

building a motor is relatively easy if you do your research and use the right tools. but dont get in over your head. if you dont have the confidence in your self that you have the ability to do this than dont. you will also need a CLEAN garage, tools, engine stand, etc... the 1st time i had a motor rebuilt i had some one else do it. i DEEPLY regret this. if you do take it to someone make sure they know what the hell there doing. i like doing it my self because of something goes wrong i know how to fix it.
with that being said as long as you thing you can do it and have the tools and stuff to do it than i would say do it your self.

Pretty much what he just said.

Caleb, I think you can take several routes to get what you want done...But the real question you need to ask yourself is something that we can't answer for you.

Have you turned wrenches enough, have enough patience & are willing to be open and try new things?

If so...Then yes, I'll remain with my previous statement of "DIY".

On the flipside? Obviously for necessities, and things you don't have avail to you, Take it to someone who knows what they're doing.
But I think your question is more focused on installation and putting things back together.

Back to square one: This is just something you'll have to decide on your own whether or not you trust yourself enough to do the labor work.

Times a' tickin'.
