Engine Rebuild Help

Ive deciding against doing a JDM 7M swap and just rebuilding my current
7M-GTE in my '88 Turbo Auto.

Although i have a few question and i have searched.

I want to use JE Pistons with Eagle Rods. The engine will stay in mostly stock form it will be bpu im looking in the area of 350-450HP. Is there any place that could possibly help with the rebuild as im only 17 and live in an Apartment but would like to learn how to rebuild an engine. Also should i replace my Valves with Ferrea Standard size valves. Im not boring out the block. just using stock size pistons, rebuilt head. Block clean and milled/lapped, etc. New oil pump and stainless steel lines. of course a metal headgasket, and shimming the Auto Trans.

Anything else i should look out for. And does anyone know who can help me with the rebuild in the Katy/Houston, TX area? Help would be great thanks!

you won't know if you need to bore the block until you take it apart and get it to a machine shop. and i wouldnt think you would need to replace the stock valves unless they were damaged in some way. plus arent ferrea valves expensive? why not just go with toyota valves if you had to replace them. looks like you have a pretty good idea already though. be sure to check search for "7m rebuild guides" on the forum, there is some good info in those threads. good luck finding a shop and a place to work on the engine

Because you are 17 I don't think you need to go crazy buying all these expensive parts when the stock parts will do fine.

Get your stock rods reconditioned by a machine shop and have them inspect the block, get oversized stock pistons (or the JEs) if necessary.
You want to keep your standard sized valves as the Ferrea valves are too expensive compared to the benefit they will give you. Getting a valve job done on the stock valves will really improve your power over the leaking ones we all have now. Cost/benefit is always important, especially with your goals of 400hp.
Get ARP bolts installed everywhere. Main studs, rod bolts, and head studs. New Toyota bolts would be fine everywhere too except for the head, make sure you get arp head studs.
Be sure to get your crank inspected and get new rod and main bearings.
A new water pump would also be a good idea.
