I checked my coolant and the color is a brownish and I am certain there has got to be engine oil in there. what causes this and how can i fix it?

Second, the block test is a kit that you can rent from, say, Autozone or Kragen that sits on top of the radiator, and detects any exhaust gasses in the coolant, which would mean=BHG. This is definitely the easiest way to do it, but won't always tell you if you have a BHG, when I had my BHG, it didn't detect anything, and I didn't have the gurgling noises behind the dash.
The Compression/Leakdown test is probably best performed by a shop, if you are a noob but it basically involes pressurizing each cylinder through the spark plug hole, and measuring how much pressure each one will hold, greatky varying compression #'s will indicate eaither BHG or worn rings, but usually BHG. This test is definitely the most accurate method of BHG detection. Hope I helped.
