well i was re- wiring my boost gauge to a different location, in the process i was testing the bulb in the boost gauge, when i turn the dash lights on i guess two wires were touching and all lights went out for the gauge and dash gagues..... the two wires for the boost gauge are what touched.. the fuses are fine none blown... the 2 boost gauge wires are going to the dash dimmer.... any idea what i need to look for or fix?? melted wires touching? if so where do i look?

depends on what you tapped the boost gauge power/ground wires into. if you tied into the illumination circuit, that the fuse you blew.

if you tapped them into the guage power supply circuit, then you blew the instrument circuit fuse.

oh, maybe you burned out the contacts in the rheostat of the dimmer itself...

is there anyone around that will let you unplug theirs to test yours, provided you disconnect those boost guage wires to prevent any more damages?

also, did you smell burning plastic/wax or see smoke when this went down? if not, your wires probalby are Not damaged.

May not be the problem but sometimes a fuse can look good but not be. I like to test all my fuses in question with a multimeter.

you probably blew the Light control rheostat (the dimmer switch for the lights). The panel for it just pulls off...easy fix.

(i am assuming you blew the gauge lights)

I have a dimmer switch from a 87 Supra. I dont know where in Illinois you are but If you pick it up you can have it for free or if you pay for shipping
