Im running a Derale 17 inch fan thats rated at 2400cfm. Been running this daily for 3 years without incident. But Im also running a BeCool radiator too. Is the mk3 setup that on the edge it needs close to double? Can the stock radiator be upgraded easy enough?

In a Volvo or a Supra?

That is in my Volvo. Thats why I asked if there was an upgrade for the MK3. I had a 91 with stock fan, but mostly all stock motor as a driver, and didnt have any cooling issues.

edit, I also had a 7mge in my 4runner and wheeled the crap out of it. I had an Aerostar radiator in that with twin 10" fans and it kept cool with a single on/off style thermo switch.

That's a 2j as well right? Little bit better of a cooling system.

No pissin' match intended. Better to just let this thread and others from the OP stand on their own merit.

JJ said that because the AFM cannot produce anything over 3000 Hz, so a reading of 16000Hz suggests measurement error. It was quite logical.

Quite logical indeed and exactly right!

http://www.rondavisradiators.com/ is the correct website not http://www.rondavisracing.com.
The CFM ratings from SPAL look honest as they show the ratings at different static loads but even the SPAl dual 12" will not compare with the stock fan and clutch.

the restriction from the radiator and anything in from of it like the condenser will increase the restriction. If the climate you live in is fairly cool then it should be fine.
You probably won't be able to get more than a set of dual 12's or a single 14" for a Supra.
As far as controller, I would go with a switch that comes on at a set temp and goes off at a set temp like I had on my 72 Blazer. I got it from Napa for under 20 dollars and it controlled a relay that controlled power to the Flexalite fans. The switch though was screwed into my Edelbrock manifold so on a supra I would go with an aftermarket radiator like the Koyo that has a threaded hole for a switch that can control a fan relay.

Quality electric fans deliver 3200 to 4600 cfm depending on single or dual setups and diameter of fans.... Quality fans also do not have large amperage draws thus do not tax the electrical system because the massive cfm numbers come from blade design plus number of blades not large electric motors.

I call BS. Just look at the datasheet for the dual SPAL 12". Current draw is 40 to 48 Amps depending on the static pressure. Factoring in the typical 55% efficiency of the Supra era alternator and you are sucking nearly 2hp off the crank to keep that thing spinning, not to mention consuming more than half the nominal capacity of the alternator. I'm not surprised controllers are failing, it takes some real engineering to manage that kind of power flow.

And still not flowing near the stock clutch fan with the 10 blade fan.
