is there any trick to taking out the egr valve??? mine's stuck and it won't pass smog.... and just by the look of it... it seems hella hard to get it out..... and another question will the egr valve have anything to do with performance??? will it cause ur car to lose power??? i understand that it's a emission control thing but just wanna make sure

I noticed that was your first post, so welcome to SM.

This here is a thread that discusses the pros/cons of a EGR removal and some good bits of info from the experts:
http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19330&highlight=egr+temperature+raise

I removed the EGR on my car, but my engine was out when I performed said task. Just some cutting/welding/grinding, or you can go about and buy yourself a blockoff plate if you want.

I am in the same boat. Easiest way to pull the EGR is to take off the upper intake manifold. I just finished cleaning all the ports (clogged) so I can get mine to pass.

I'm sure you can fish it out w/ some extensions and flex-sockets, but I happen to be doing a few other things as well (cable driven t/b, n/a valve covers, by-pass the ISC an TB water hoses), that's why I pulled the upper intake.

It takes ten minutes if you DO NOT REMOVE INTAKE PLENUM!

Having just done this a few times the easiest was is using a Deep 12mm (or 10mm i can't remember which) and a 3" extension. Its trick but you CAN get the deep socket and extension on the nuts for the side on the heads. After which you then attatch the rachet. A hose might get in your way just push it away best you can. The ONLY thing you need to dissconnect is a couple vacuum lines and when you get the egr lose youll need to disconnect the vacuum modulator (the thing that attatches to the EGR directly above it).

Also, when all bolts are off (all 4). pull the end on the intake plenum TOWARDS the firewall first to get it lose, you won't beable to get it lose by just pulling the direction of the studs at first.

How do you know it is stuck? There is a check for that, and if you don't have a vacuum pump, you probably didn't check it.

A more likely cause is the electric solenoid that controls the modulator.

its worth looking into, its called a VSV, and they commonly get clogged. Its an $80 part vs $180 part

yeah i checked it.... with a vacuum pump..... let my car idle and then used the vacuum pump isn't and from the book it say if the car don't stall or idle rough it's stuck... and when i apply the vacuum pump it was running normal.... and the pump was a good.... and the vsv is the one that's on the lower side rite?? by the block??
