I just went thru this, you dont have to pull the motor but its a bitch to get it off, much easier to put it back on. Heres a few tips to make it easier.
1 Remove the coolant hose above it and remove the valve covers
2 you can purchase these things at sears, i forgot what theyre called but u plug them in to the back of the socket so u can turn the socket w/ a wrench for lower clearence.
3 buy an extendable magnet, that way you dont have to crawl under the car every time you drop the wrench
4 you may not want to do this because it will dent your fire wall but if you dont care take a 3 foot pry bar and put the teeth of the curved end behind the rear engine lift braket (the thing you would hook an engine hoist to) and pry against the firewall, this will give you an extra inch or so of clearence, i then proped up the bar by putting half of my jack arm between the pry bar and the turbo to hold pressure on it. WARNING make sure the the proped pry bar under tension doesnt slip free and crack you in the skull!
Also buy extra wrenches b/c there is gonna be alot of swearing/ throwing wrenches!
Good luck and take a break if you have to because if you get too mad you wont accomplish anything
